An appeal for a 'limited publication of reviews' now?

Hello @user_not_found ,

This thread is part of the series of anomalies I’ve been reporting since the implementation of the machine learning model used in Google Maps to control spam (e.g. https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Open-an-appeal-on-a-flagged-photo-not-on-flagged-review/td-p/3662482)).

Yesterday, a message was brought to me by Google Maps, still without having violated any rule and even after all the reviews reported as violating the rules by the machine learning model had been republished after a moderator had responded to my appeals. The problem has just been taken to a new level of seriousness:

I made an appeal for this particular restriction, but I didn’t see any message of this type in the forum.

Google Moderators, please get in touch.

In advance,

Hi @RoadTripCostazzura

That is a serious message with some heavy restrictions put on your account.

Sometimes it is nessesary to reflect on our contributions with an open mind. I have been there myself after I got suspended from the program.

If your contributions are in English I will offer to review some of your photos and reviews to see if I can spot any potential issues. If you want my help, you will need to make a few screenshots of your photo and reviews as your contributions are currently not publicly viewable.

Alternatively, you could try the appeals form related to hidden contributions. But before doing so it is best to fix all issues you can to prevent getting suspended.

All the best

Morten

Ps please read my tutorial called How to Get In and Out of Trouble as a Local Guide

Hi @MortenCopenhagen ,

I don’t understand at all: I’ve just been banned for good, because I’ve just been informed that my appeal has been rejected. All this without ever having notified me of the slightest review concerned or deleted. All my work deleted in a few minutes. I’ve been posting reviews for ten years, always in the same way.

I don’t understand how you can agree to ban someone definitively without even showing them the slightest evidence of the reason for the deletion.

Someone at Google Maps doesn’t like me, it wouldn’t be possible otherwise.

A deep sense of injustice.

Two pointers to help you:

You need to start thinking critically about your contributions. If you are not open to accept that you might have violated some guidelines you will not ge able to figure out what you did wrong.

“Permanently” does not really mean fur ever. If you are able to fix your violations We have a lot of examples where LGs have been reinstated.

But it will take a lot of efforts on your part to find out and fix the issues.

Is this the account or is it another account?

Cheers

Morten

Thanks for your time @MortenCopenhagen ,

  • Is this the account or is it another account?

Yes, it is.

What do you mean by that? If you haven’t told me which review(s) would violate the rules, I should censor review(s) that might be ‘politically incorrect’ (all my writings are factual, precisely to avoid any violation of the rules and to prove that I’m not evil)? I’m talking about ‘politically correct’ reviews, because I’ve recently given reviews to foreign governments following foreign vacations. Again, all factual.

It wasn’t my localguide badge that was banned, but my Google Maps profile.

Sometimes the truth can be unpleasant, and the same goes for me and Google. You can’t give credit where credit is due and not mention events that have actually happened.

I’m sorry but I don’t accept self-censorship. If an review is deemed to violate the rules, I’ll gladly change it if it turns out to violate the rules. I accept to admit my guilt if I have to admit it. Otherwise, it would be unfounded. Today, I know that certain subjects are ‘politically sensitive’, but that doesn’t mean my comments aren’t representative (as a reminder, I’m always factual and only report factual elements).

In any case, I don’t think that modifying/deleting any review will change this injustice or lack of transparency (?): in the last email, it says ‘Other resolution options may be available’, but when I go to the page, the only ‘option’ available is to ‘take legal action’ against Google (…), it says.

@RoadTripCostazzura

I asked if this is the account in question because Local Guides suspended from Google Maps will also lose their writing privilege in Connect.

After that your only option is to use the appeals from for suspended LGs.

I have helped well over a hundred LG that were suspended. And I am familiar with the outrage and dispair they feel. What I’m trying to get you to acknowledge is that all the guidelines surrounding Google Maps are many and complex. So much so that your notion that you have followed each and every of them is honestly not very likely. If you have you will easily be reinstated. If not it is on you to figure out what you did wrong. Believing you did nothing wrong will make it close to impossible to figure out what you did wrong and fix the issues.

It is of cause your choice if you want to try to identify the issues and fix them or not.

I’m just your peer trying to help you.

Please read the tutorial for suspended LGs if you want to start the process of recovering your LG status.

All the best

  • It is if cause your choice if you want to try to identify tte issues and fix them or not.

I’m sorry, I have nothing against you and understand your help; it’s against this methodology. This methodology is going out of my head.

What should I modify/delete if Google hasn’t told me which review(s) would be problematic? Because without this answer, it’s all my reviews that I have to delete/modify (as I said before, ‘I’ve been posting reviews for ten years, always in the same way.’), but that doesn’t make any sense.

I think you should report this inconsistency to Googlers so that it can be corrected.

Leaving it up to the user to decide which review is problematic at a rough guess is insane to me.

The lack of transparency and the difficulty in identifying specific issues are frustrating. It’s important to communicate this concern to Google, highlighting the need for more clarity in the review process.
