সবাই কেমন আছেন ? নিজের দেশকে জানা যতটা জরুরি ঠিক ততটা মজার এর ইতিহাস জানা । চলুন সেই পথেই হাটা শুরু করা যাক !
ঢাকার কাছের এই জায়গায় ভোলা দ্বীপ থেকে মানুষ এসে চাষবাস করত বলেই ঢাকার লোকজন একে ভোলা গ্রাম নাম দিয়েছিল । মূল ঢাকার বেশ বাইরে ছিল এর অবস্থান। পাকিস্তান আমলের শেষ দিকে ভোলা গ্রামের দিকে নজর পড়ে সৌখিন মানুষের। দৃষ্টি দেয় তৎকালীন শাসকগোষ্ঠীও । কোন অনুমান করতে পারছেন এলাকাটি সম্পর্কে ?
যে জায়গাটি এখন দেশের সবচেয়ে ঝা চকচকে অট্টালিকা দিয়ে সাজানো , রাত দিন যেখানে দেশি বিদেশি হাই প্রফাইল মানুষের আনাগোনা , সেই গুলশান এর কথাই বলছি । ভাবছেন কিভাবে জানলাম এসব কথা !!!
কালের সাক্ষী হয়ে সেই গুলশান -১ এর বুকেই দাড়িয়ে আছে অনুমানিক ১৪৫ বছরের পুরানো ভোলা জামে মসজিদ (বর্তমান গুলশান জামে মসজিদ) । গুলশান সাউথ পার্ক থেকে ২৫০ মিটার গেলেই পাবেন এই মসজিদের দেখা ।
ইতিহাস বলে , প্রথম বিশ্বযুদ্ধের আগে সমগ্র গুলশান , বাড্ডা , মহাখালি , নিকুঞ্জ এসব জায়গা ঢাকার কোন ছিটেফোঁটাও পায়নি , জনবসতিও ছিল খুবই কম । ৬০ এর দশকের পরে নদী ভাঙ্গা দক্ষিনাঞ্চলের কিছু মানুষ বর্তমান গুলশান -১ এলাকায় বসবাস শুরু করে । সেসময় তারা গবাদি পশুকে ঘাস খাওয়াতে নিয়ে যেত বর্তমান বনানী ও নিকুঞ্জের দিকে । **উত্তরার **দিকে যাবার সাহস করত না , কারন সেখানে বড় বড় ডোবা আর বালুচর ছাড়া কিছুই ছিল না । সেসব মানুষ মাছ শিকার করত বনশ্রী , রামপুরা এলাকায় , কারন এসব জায়গায় তখন বড় বড় বিল ছিল ।
পাকিস্তান আমলে গ্রামটি অধিগ্রহণ করে সেখানে ১৯৬১ সালের দিকে পরিকল্পিত আবাসিক এলাকা গড়ে তোলেন ডিআইটির (ঢাকা ইম্প্রুভমেন্ট ট্রাস্ট) প্রথম চেয়ারম্যান পাকিস্তানি আমলা জিএ মাদানি। পাকিস্তানের করাচিতে ছিল গুলশান (গুলশান-ই-ইকবাল) নামের একটি অভিজাত আবাসিক এলাকা। মাদানি মনস্থির করেন, ঢাকাস্থ অভিজাত এলাকাটির নামও রাখা হবে গুলশান। এসব কারণে গুলশানে শতবর্ষী কোনো স্কুল-কলেজের সন্ধান পাওয়া যায় না , কারন এটি গড়েই তোলা হয়েছিল শুধুমাত্র আবাসিক এলাকা হিসেবে ।
যাহোক , আজকের গুলশান আর সেসময়ের গুলশান চোখ বন্ধ করে কল্পনা করতে পারেন কি ? দেখুন তো গুলশান এভিনিউ দিয়ে ভর সন্ধ্যায় কোন রাখাল তার গরু নিয়ে বাড়ি ফিরছে কিনা ? কিংবা হাতিরঝিল হয়ে কোন জেলে মাছ ধরার জাল কাধে হেঁটে আসছে কিনা ? আমরা কি সত্যিই ভুলে গেছি তাদের ?

Gulshan is the place where the country is now surrounded night and day by some of the brightest buildings in the country, where native foreign high profile people are exposed all day long .Are you thinking how I knew these words !!!
The witness of the time stands at the base of Gulshan-1 , 145 years old Bhola Jama Masjid (the current Gulshan Jame Mosque). You can visit this mosque just 250 meters from Gulshan South Park.
History suggests that before World War Il, the whole Gulshan, Badda, Mohkhali and Nikunj were not found at any of these places, the population being very small. After the 60s, some people from the southern part of the river broke up and started living in the present Gulshan-1 area. At that time they used to take cattle to grass and present Banani and Nikunj. Uttara did not dare to go, as there was nothing but a large moat and shelf. They used to fish in Banasree , Rampura area, because there were big lakes and ponds in those places.
During the occupation of Pakistan, the village was acquired by GA Madani, the first president of DIT (Dhaka Improvement Trust). Gulshan (pk) was an elite residential area in Karachi, Pakistan. Madani decided that Gulshan would be designated as the elite region of Dhaka. For these reasons, no school or college is found in Gulshan as it was built only as a residential area.
However, can you close the eyes to compare today’s Gulshan and that time Gulshan? See if a shepherd is returning home on Gulshan Avenue with his cows in the evening? Or if a fisherman is walking on the road with his fishing net from Hatirjheel ? Have we really forgotten them?
