Dear Admins,
@EmekaUlor and other Nigerian and African Moderators,
I want to bring to your attention something mischievous on the map.
I paid close attention to the entry for Computer Village ikeja on the map and noticed that it has both a website, a mobile telephone number and a Google my business page.
May it be understood that computer Village ikeja is a market and not a business entity.
What has happened so far is someone cleverly leveraged the listing to promote a private business,
I doubt if the Nigerian cooperate affairs commission could approve registration for a business with that name.
My two cents

Please explain why you think this problem is specific to Nigeria or Africa?
Would you be interested in guidance from elsewhere?
Cheers

Good day @Anakor_Jeremiah
Thank you so much for observing this and exposing this person.
I’m sure @EmekaUlor , sagir, Sanya and other Top Nigeria (Lagos) local guides will attend to this!

Hi @Anakor_Jeremiah
Thanks for highlighting this issue. In the future please add a link to the listing in Maps. This will make easier to check and respond
The Listing has been indeed hijacked by a business that is only selling online, as we can see in their website.
As it has been claimed, It will be difficult to fix it, so my suggestion is to ask for help, reporting the issue in the Google Maps Help Community
You can also report them in the Google My Business Help Community as they are violating the Guidelines

@Anakor_Jeremiah @Magbagbeola we need to confirm that this business is registered with CAC. Secondly, I think these guys are smart enough to buy a website with computervillage.ng and it is legal. They also have a shop in computer village. If we report them like @ErmesT stated they may have evidence to retain the name.

TThank you for stopping by,
For sure I am open to guidance from around the world,
I only called on Local Guide Admin based in Nigeria for an insight into the possibility of the business having a legal registration, and @EmekaUlor has offered a helpful insight in that regard
@ermest has also proffered very good suggestions.
I will inquire on the registration status of the business and revert here.
Best regards.

I just looked at the listing shared by @ErmesT and now the place is not claimed and the phone number seems correct compared to https://computervillage.ng
So my guess is that the problem is solved by now. Or did I miss something?
You could suggest to the owners to claim the listing to prevent this from happening again.
Cheers
Morten
Many thanks @MortenCopenhagen
The problem with that entry is that someone is mischievous enough to do something like registering a domain name like “SILICONVALLEY .US”, and then running a business as though it is representative of all the businesses in silicon Valley.

I see. But still, part of the solution is to get the real Computer Village to claim the listing on Google Maps since it is currently not claimed. When successful they will be able to remove the connection. I think this should be done in parallel to also claiming the url computervillage.ng back via your national hostmaster.
The initial fault was probably that they don’t own the url computervillage.ng in the first place, right? (which is totally unrelated to Google Maps).

@MortenCopenhagen @Good suggestion, but, it is nearly impossible for the market to get that organised at this stage.
I searched through registered businesses on the corporate affairs commission website, none of the listed businesses correspond to Computer Village NG.
I will rather simply suggest that the Maps admins look into how to detach the listing, maybe revisit the approval through Google My Business, the person managing the business may be asked to submit government registration.
Etc.
