Ajrak: A Sindh Cloth CL:SIN 26 Souvenir traveled Through Pakistan-Sri Lanka-Singapore-Japan

My Husband @ShakibTokyo and me went to the seaside called Zushi Beach in Kanagawa prefecture, during our summer vacation in Japan. It was drizzling, so the summer heat was subdued; the cool breeze actually made it feel quite chilly. The Ajrak gifted by @KashifMisidia Bhai turned out to be a lifesaver for us. We wrapped ourselves in it—my husband even walked around with it draped over his shoulders. A big thank you to Kashif Bhai and Connect Live Singapore 2026 for gifting us this exquisite piece of Pakistani heritage.

★My Husband liked it more than me

This Ajrak traveled through three countries before arriving in Japan. It began its journey from Karachi, Pakistan, with Kashif Bhai, stopped over in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and then made its way to Singapore. Kashif Bhai gifted it to me during the Local Guides’ souvenir exchange program at Connect Live Singapore 2026, and I subsequently brought it from Singapore to Tokyo, Japan. I was truly impressed by the fabric, the diversity of colors, and the texture of this piece of art. My husband like it more than me, he narrated a big thank you Kashif Bhai.

Kashif Bhai’s letter and History of Ajrak

Dear TAHMINA

It is a profound honor to finally meet you in person here at Connect Live Singapore 2026. Sharing this physical space with you today is a milestone I have eagerly looked forward to, and it truly validates why we call this platform our second home. Meeting you face-to-face has turned our digital friendship into a real-life bond, and it is a memory I will cherish deeply.

I hope this meeting is just the beginning. I look forward to the many more opportunities we will have to cross paths at future global events. Please accept this humble gift as a token of our meeting. This Ajrak is not merely a piece of fabric, but a physical glimpse into the rich history of the Indus Valley, a civilization that flourished in the region of ancient India and is now preserved in the Sindh province of modern-day Pakistan. As I shared before, its depth is truly remarkable:

Ajrak: The Soul of Sindh

Ajrak is far more than just a piece of fabric; it is the living soul, identity, and enduring pride of Sindh. To view it as a mere piece of cloth is to overlook the millennia of history and deep human emotion woven into every thread.

HISTORICAL ROOTS: A LINK TO ANTIQUITY

The significance of Ajrak is deeply rooted in the Indus Valley Civilization. Archaeological excavations at Mohenjo-Daro-a site of shared ancient heritage have revealed ancient statues draped in garments featuring patterns strikingly similar to the modern-day Ajrak. This incredible continuity suggests that the tradition of block-printing these geometric designs has been preserved through thousands of years. p-125

A SYMBOL OF UNIVERSAL EQUALITY

The intricate, repeating geometric patterns represent the universe. Its traditional natural colors are deeply symbolic: Deep crimson represents the earth and the sun, indigo (blue) signifies the night sky and the mighty Indus River, and white captures the purity of the stars. It bridges societal gaps, carrying the same dignity for everyone-transcending class and status to unite us all.

AN EMOTIONAL TRIBUTE OF HONOR

Presenting an Ajrak is a sacred gesture where the giver offers their own honor to the guest. Wrapped in its warmth, the guest feels the embrace of an entire civilization, creating an unbreakable bond of love and respect that remains long after this event.

Thank you for being such an integral part of my journey. I am truly grateful for our friendship and look forward to meeting you again, Insha’Allah.

★As we can preview the serene view of the Sagami Bay

Sagami Bay: The Scenic Coastal Heart, On clear days, Sagami Bay provides sweeping views across the water toward Enoshima Island and the silhouette of Mount Fuji rising in the distance. Warmed by ocean currents, the bay stays relatively gentle and shallow near the shore, making it popular for water activities like paddleboarding, kayaking, and windsurfing.

The dark, fine sand is perfect for building sandcastles, digging shallow pools, or searching for tiny seashells washed up by the mild tide.

During the summer months, seasonal beach houses (umi-no-ie) pop up along the shore, offering shade, showers, lockers, warm food, and rental gear like umbrellas and kid-sized lifejackets. It is an easy 10-to-15 minute walk from JR Zushi Station or Keikyu Zushi-Hayama Station.

Nested along the coastline of Kanagawa Prefecture, Sagami Bay and Zushi Beach offer one of the most accessible seaside escapes from central Tokyo. Stretching across a natural curve in the Shonan area, this destination blends family-friendly ocean play with stunning coastal landscapes.
