Airport Diaries: Seattle - Tacoma International Airport

‘Airport diaries’ is an interesting series started by Guiding Star and enthusiastic local guide @Pratik_89

One of my previous airport diary is:
Share Your Airport Diaries - Houston

The Seattle airport too has on display various unique artifacts.

One of the odd-looking ones were a series of hollow shapes that looked like heart chambers.
Some of them also looked like dressed chicken or Turkeys.

Being the birthplace of large aviation companies like Boeing, aircraft models was a natural choice.

When I visited Seattle in June 2023, I noticed large models of odd looking airplanes hanging from the ceiling.

One of them is shaped like a bird with a turbo fan on its front.

In the main converging hall, there were also a couple of retro airplane models one of which was a regular biplane from the 1930’s and another one was a huge glider with wing spans so large that it could not be accommodated in a single frame.

You will get to see these only when walking past the baggage area towards the Seattle Light Rail Metro.

Read a detailed account on how to reach the Seattle City Center or Downtown for just $3 compared to $40 for a taxi by using the Seattle Light Rail Metro.

Where to Stay

I stayed in the Green Tortoise Hostel that was studded with features, yet very economical rates.

Really nice post!

I believe the conceptual plane models are stunning. It surely remind people visiting that the city was famous as the center of the aircraft industry, where one of the biggest manufacturers, BOEING, is located. Now it is famous home for IT giants like Amazon and Microsoft!

Thanks for sharing @TusharSuradkar !

Cheers!

Yes, Microsoft is also a big name out here @AjitThite but not seen prominently as Boeing, which has much more visibility.

I think it is because the aircrafts are manufactured here and are tangible items that can be seen and touched and placed all over the city and also at the airport.

Microsoft on the other hand is only a big name and ‘recent’ compared to the age-old Boeing.

Moreover, MS has nothing tangible, also their components are mostly made overseas - like in Hyderabad

You were never forgotten dear @Pratik_89

Just that you are probably inactive in LG Connect, which is fine

This amazing series was started by you and what I like the most is that it showed me how we can actually capture some interesting place even at dull places like an airport.

The art is around us at the airport and that we can capture and share it with the world.

Thanks again for this interesting series/challenge! :+1:

I love travelling by car and the train in the US to enjoy the refreshingly new landscapes, but fly only when compelled to

Wow, the artifacts at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are really unique…! The heart-shaped ones definitely caught my attention, they almost look like dressed chicken or turkeys. And being the birthplace of Boeing, it’s no surprise that they have airplane models on display as well. The bird-shaped aircraft model with a turbo fan is really interesting. The retro airplane models, especially the massive glider, must be quite a sight to see. It’s great that you can spot these artifacts while walking towards the Seattle Light Rail Metro. Thanks dear @TusharSuradkar for sharing this information and also providing details on where to stay and the top tourist places in Seattle. It’s always helpful to have recommendations when visiting a new city!

Your observation is correct @FaridTDF .

I bought some food at a layover airport in Europe where the customer is expected to handle his/her credit card throughout the purchase and not hand it over to the merchant.

This is not the practice out here in India, where the merchant handles the entire process and makes sure that the card is returned back to the customer.
Out of this habit, I left my credit card at the transition airport and arrived in the US, where I had to survive on whatever little backup cash I had.

So, I was traveling on a tight budget and avoided costly food at the airport

Hu cuanto lo siento :disappointed: @TusharSuradkar , es un gran problema no contar con tarjeta de crédito en un país extranjero.
Espero que lo solucionaras

So interesting to see the artifacts in the Seattle airport. And wow, never realized how huge a biplane/glider was, and your photo really helped to give perspective. :couple_with_heart_woman_man:
