Well this is interesting. AI has crept in someplace else unwanted in our everyday lives. While I’ve given this a try and the feature certainly works I am not supportive of frivolous use of water, electricity and natural resources needed to power AI. Like .com the bubble will probably burst and take the world economy with it sadly. Let me know if you think differently. I do wonder if it trains the model on me, my location, my searches? How well will it get to know me?
@PaulPavlinovich I’m on the fence. I’m heavily biased by sci-fi movies as my benchmark for ‘what the future would look like’ so, in my opinion, AI is pretty much going to be tightly woven into the fabric of society. This Ask Maps future that allows ‘conversational’ style queries is interesting and I would certainly try/use it, but like you, I worry about the environment issues that come with AI use, that includes frivolous use of AI.
But like all AI companies, there is a need, warranted or not, to get in there early to:
- get more data
- understand what works or don’t
Both of those points will help them iterate their model faster and independently (i.e. not relying on using outsourced data/experience from a 3rd party). The early decades of the Industrial Revolution was horrible for the planet (including humans) but it paved the way for modernisation that we’ve grown to take for granted.
I’m afraid the AI revolution will pretty much be the same.
Luckily for me, I don’t feel the need to always use AI but then again, at my age, I feel like a dinosaur at times. 
Like you, I’m a bit overwhelmed by this massive use of AI in all fields: it seems like we can’t do anything without this artificial intelligence. However, I agree that this is also the future, which, whether we like it or not, will somehow shape the way we use the devices we’ll be using more and more often (our smartphones or the smart glasses we’ll all own sooner or later). I also have no doubt that “ask” is much more practical than searching by hand or typing something on a screen, and with the levels achieved today, engaging in a dialogue with AI is certainly easier.
