picture of African Walnuts including de-shelled nuts
One that thing that is synonymous with African Forest is riches or goodies. Variety of nuts and fruits rich in nutrients, some known, some yet to be discovered. Today I tell you about African walnut, a bit different from the Walnut consumed in Americas. This type of walnut is predominantly seen in Nigeria, Sierra Lone, Angola, Ghana etc. In the eastern part of Nigeria we call it “Ukpa” while the Western part named it “Asala” the botanical name is Tetracarpidium Conophorum.
Irrespective of what you call it, this white seed encapsuled in dark shell contains vitamins B6, B7, C and Omega 3 fatty acid promoting brain growth, helping in carbohydrate metabolism in addition to being an antioxidant that shields the body from free radicals. It has been identified as a good weight control requisite amongst other uses.
You are too good in this aspect. African walnut is one of my favorites fruit because it’s rich in nutrients, when you chew it, is good and sweet but when you drink water after chewing it, your mouth will be suddenly bitter. Take note, if you’re chewing African Walnuts don’t attempt to drink water on it.
