Adventures in Bali (Crete, Greece)

In October 2019, I decided to go on Vacation to Greece. The purpose of my trip was the most banal-to relax, walk, eat delicious food and swim in the sea. I was put in a beautiful hotel on the beach (37 degrees and I’m on the beach). The food was delicious. On day 4, I started to get bored. And I decided to go for a long walk to the Monastery of St. John the Baptist Atalis (AGIU Ioani Prodromu) which is located on the mountainside above the village of Bali. The highway is very close, no more than a kilometer, there are signs. The distance from Bali is about 5-6 km. N 35° 24.192 E 24° 46.343. I thought it wouldn’t be a problem for an active tourist like me. I took water, a backpack, money and went on the road. I walked along the road, admiring the beauty of the mountains and the blue sky and mountains. I have already passed 4 km, as my assistant showed me to go beyond someone else’s territory and showed me the road to the mountain that was not there. There was no castle in the fenced area, but there was also a path where sheep walked.(at least not angry dogs).I walked on the mountain, through the thorns and the road disappeared completely. I sat down on a rock and began to think what to do. And then a car saw me from the road (as it turned out later - it was the owner). He was very surprised when he saw me on his private property. I started explaining that my program had shown me that way . He replied that I had to go to the monastery on the road for another 5-7 km. He was angry with me and looked like a bandit from the high road. I apologized to him . And I decided that since I have a relaxing vacation, I will not get involved in history again. I went to my hotel)))).

R. S I got off easy.

Hey @Sviatlana ,

Thanks for sharing your adventure with us. Was this your first visit in Crete? I still haven’t been there although I hear very good things about the island. How are the beaches? Are there many rocks or they are sandy?

@MoniDi Thanks! I have been to Greece 3 times. On the island of Crete for the first time. This is a wonderful island. In the next review, I will tell you about life, food, beaches in the village of Bali. And why do I recommend staying there

You were unlucky! The Greeks are hospitable if you try to speak their language a little.

Вам не повезло ! Греки гостеприимны, если вы пытаетесь немного говорить на их языке.

@Anino This story is funny))) the Greek did really well with me. I’m the one who went into private territory. It was actually fun.
