Not only is adding Local Guide as part of my dating app profile a smooth move, the program to me is a type of social media that allows you to help others find information they are looking for.
I’ve been a Google Maps user and reviewer for a long time, but I started off slow – just adding 1-5 stars (and maybe even a sentence or two) after pub visits.
It became a great tool for remembering if I have been to a place, and if I liked it. Of course, I took pictures of things while I was out and about. Who doesn’t? When I poke around the map to find new hikes or restaurants I definitely look at the pictures first. So why shouldn’t I add my photos and help other explorers get inspired to visit a place that I found worth taking a picture of?
Last summer I visited family in Colorado. It was the first time I had ever spent time there, so I definitely wanted to head outdoors and check out the state’s offerings. My older brother was my guide – he had moved there about a year prior and had been exploring parks and trails to keep him and his sons busy and active. After returning home, I posted pictures and a review of a place we visited called Devil’s Backbone Open Space: https://goo.gl/maps/CXyCKxBMKQ7gCmsv9
I am floored every time I check the updated counts on the views of those photos. One of them currently has 45,710 views! I love thinking that somebody might have checked out that picture and thought “Oh! I have to go see that in person.” Or maybe they already visited without taking their own photos and could use mine to show their friends where they had been.
Not everybody has an older brother to show them around everywhere they want to go - and that, to me, is what Local Guides are for.
