Hi Local Guides,

I am a local guide from Kerala. I have not received any benefits till now.

What are the advantages of being a local guide?

When do we get “Perks”?Any other benefits ? Like to know other local guides experiences and feedbacks.

Hello @RajiVineeth And Welcome to Local Guides Connect.

There aren’t specific perks for each and every Level. Local Guides enjoy early access to new product features and rewards from Google partners and these awards are available worldwide or by region. There is no financial compensation from being a Local Guide as this is an at-will program that Local Guides are free to contribute to at their own leisure.

Local Guides who have opted in to receive benefit emails will be updated with any new rewards and they encourage Local Guides to check their email-settings and update/monitor their email preferences as well as their spam or promotions folder.

And one more thing, Local Guides is a voluntary program and many people participate in it because they want to be able to help others via the Google Maps platform. You can read more - “Why be a Local Guide?”

Along with the post why to be a local guide, you can go through the experiences of several Connect live applicants. You will find many posts in Local stories section. Alternatively, you can search the text string “What does the local guide program mean to me?”

I found many inspiring stories in that.

Further, even though we sign up for the program without expectation of benefits, we do get periodic offers for perks on making consistent and regular contributions.

I have to tell you that the main advantage of being a Local Guide is that you can help others totally selflessly.

How can you help?

  • Writing solid and useful reviews of the places you visit
  • Uploading helpful photos of the places
  • Adding new business to the map or correcting the categories of them.

And many other ways to make Google Maps even more useful.

As is said in the section Get Recognized -Local Guides Help, with your contributions you get points.

"As a Local Guide, you earn points for sharing reviews, photos, and knowledge on Google Maps. Those points lead to higher levels of the program, as well as benefits like early access to Google features and special perks from partners. At Level 4, you also unlock your first Local Guides badge, which helps your contributions to places get noticed.

Make sure you’re signed up for updates by reviewing email preferences on your Local Guides settings page."
