Adding Missing Place - Pending

Recently I’ve tried to add two missing places to the map with no success.

I tried to add in two different ways and a few different times. I try starting with a pin drop and adding a missing place and I tried “Add a missing place” under the main menu of the map application. When adding the missing places I upload picture of the place being added.

They just get marked as pending and never go live. I’ve asked a friend who is also a google guide if they can see them when checking facts and they see nothing there to check.

Is there something i’m missing here? how can these places be added and actually get accepted and go live?

As a side note one of the photos of one of the places I added has been viewed over 1,200 times already. The location “View Place” because its still pending.

How are the photos being viewed if the places hasn’t been added to the map. How could 1,200 people have viewed it and no one approved the added location?

Hi @chiefzero

I want to compliment you on bringing up your second issue about pics being viewed even though the place has not yet been approved. I hope someone will explain this.

Resently I ran into big problems getting places approved in a few public parks. In other cases I don’t have much trouble getting places approved. Some tricks include: add as much info as you can. Phone and web site are crucial. Also be careful selecting the most specific category you can. Add opening hours even when it 24-7 all week. And a couple of good pictures. Sometimes it helps to do the add when being there.

Hope this helps.

I did post the places immediately after taking the pictures while at the location. Both are inside heavly trafficked airports. I confirmed the pin drops were exact. I posted with pictures and categories complete. No posted hours. One was a Starbucks.

Hi @chiefzero

There are several reason for an edit to be pending, as explained on this post: Why is my edit status “Pending” or “Not Applied”?

There are different theories about how to best contribute for having an edit approved, from the “all info” (add more info you can) to the minimal (add only the basic info, otherwise they will have to verify everything before to approve it). I use this latest, with an high rate of approval. Basically it simply depends of the time needed for the verification

Hi @chiefzero

Over time I’ve tried different approaches and although it sounds counter intuitive, I’ve found the same appeoach as mentioned by @ErmesT to yield the best outcome.

So your suggestion is to add as little information as possible?

I tried that too. I’ve added only using the required fields with no pictures even though it prompts me to add pictures and I’ve tried added as much info as possible.

This is just a hit or miss situation? Seems so inefficient.

No @chiefzero

We are simply stating that the theory of add more or add minimal is just a speculative theory, not sticked to any concrete evidence. So basically, as indicated on the post that I shared on my previous reply (have you read it? From your answer, looks like you haven’t) if Google can verify the information, the edit will be approved, otherwise it will not

I have read the post you linked to. I’m just trying to understand what I need to add or take away to get a place approved. When weeks go by and the contributions still say pending its a bit discouraging to even try. What is a reasonable amount of time? Weeks? Months?

Should I keep trying to add the same place in several different fashions? Or should I forget about it?

How many people in that time might be trying to add the same place to the map?

When you want to post picture and a review of a place you were just at and its not on the google maps yet so you attempt to add it and are left waiting it can be a little frustrating.

As I mentioned there are no facts to be checked and the pictures in one case at lease have been viewed over 1,300 times now. In one instance I am trying to add a Starbucks after security check at the airport that was not on the map. In this case just before security there is another Starbucks and that one is on the map. As you know you can’t walk through security with a drink so it would have been very nice to know that I could get a drink right after security.

My main intention was to see if there was a clear way to do this. It doesn’t seem like there is and that’s unfortunate and discouraging.

@chiefzero

please tag the person you are talking with. In this way we will receive a notification, and we will be able to reply quickly.

I personally had edits approved after months. While your edit still pending, please avoid to submit the same place again, as this is a way to create duplicated places, AKA spamming on Google maps.

A place will be approved when Google Maps will have enough information for approving it. In the opposite case, it will be denied

Thank you. There seems like there could be room for improvement here.

Lets say that during the months my addition is waiting to be approve that several other guides submit the same place. Doesn’t that create the same risk of the place being added multiple times?

If fellow google guides had access to see if the place was submitted they could help to approve it before submitting their own addition.

Anyway I appreciate clearing this up for me.
