Google Maps is already very useful for showing traffic and hazards, but one thing that could make roads much safer is showing potholes and damaged road spots.
Potholes are more than just annoying. They can damage cars, cause accidents, and for motorcycles they can be deadly. A rider hitting a deep pothole can easily lose balance and crash. Many drivers don’t know where new potholes are, especially if they’re on a road they don’t travel often.
Google could use phone sensors (like detecting unusual shakes, similar to how Android already detects earthquakes) to identify possible potholes. Then, drivers or Local Guides could confirm them. That way, Maps could alert drivers in real time and also give local authorities better information about which roads need repair.
This would protect drivers and riders, save money on vehicle damage, and make Google Maps even more reliable for everyday travel.
