When adding all the different details to a new place we often need to jump between applications to copy / paste the relevant information.
If you happen to paste the url to a website and then make one more jump to another application to copy one more piece of information all your work will evaporate the second you return to Google Maps to paste the next missing piece of info.
All your work is simply GONE. No draft or way to return and save your work.
I see only one workaround and that is to always manually remember to paste the url as the very last thing before submitting your new place. Don’t try to jump/switch/swop to another application once you have pasted the url.
This bug is permanent and 100 percent reproducible.
It is a major turn off to see your efforts being lost again and again. It just happened to me again.
I guess Google starts the verification as soon as the url is pasted, but that does not justify this bugs hurting Local Guides’ motivation.
It’s true that when we switch from one application to other using the back button, the WIP data in the Maps screen vanishes. However, that’s true for not only Maps but any other application also.
However, I use either of the following two methods to overcome that.
Split-screen. That’s useful if I wish to copy-pasting data from different fields within two applications.
However, when I wish to switch between multiple applications, I Touch the home button & then drag that upwards. That allows me to switch between any background application.
Fortunately, the data in maps remains live when I come back there.
That is something similar to the Alt+Tab command on a Windows PC.
The method varies between different hardware patterns or configuration of settings like one/two/three-button navigation. However, the facility exists in most of the Android phones.
Also, on my Android 9 phone, the screens are stacked one above the other whereas, on Pixel, I have to scroll horizontally. However, the usability remains the same.
I always try to fill the place’s all details individually.
I don’t consider this is a bug, it’s lack of functionality.
Regarding this problem,
I think google maps will need to think about draft option, or Reedit option or revised later.
The details has been vanished,
I think most of the applications has the same nature. Not for only google maps.
And I agree that google maps needed to more accessible regarding data of edits.
Maybe google maps team don’t want draft option, because maybe it’s adding more burden of non complete data and pending details on google maps.
During copy &paste, as @C_T mention, click home button and do the copy &paste with your background applications. And it’s very easy and effective way.
I will suggest you that gives your idea in idea exchange, for improvement of google maps functionality.
