THE PARADE GROUNDS
This statue was firstly erected infront of the Christianbug castle built by the Danish. The Castle was the then Government house before the independence. This was rebuilt and erected here to this site after the independence.
The main reason for this was 3 soldiers were killed in the year 1948 long before the independence on 1957. They were matching towards the castle to present their grievance to the then governor of the Gold coast. The British Government conscripted them into the British Army to fight in Burma in the 2nd world war. After the war they were left with nothing. Therefore they felt a need to have a peaceful protest,they matched to the castle to do this . The soldiers on guard were ordered to shoot but on refusal one of the members of the castle grabbed a gun and shot into the crowd. 3 soldiers were killed

It usually is called the lone soldiers,because there were 3 killed but just one soldier erected. Therefore we dont know which of the 3 it was erected. Nevertheless there are 3 plaques erected there beneath the lone soldier.
After independence, this monument was raised for a memorial to them.
The Gulf of Guinea lies right behind the grounds. And you can definitely feel the breeze from the sea. it’s a place worth visiting.
