Accessibility for All - Who Wants to be a Millionaire

Sarthak Educational Trust is a Delhi-based organization involved in the skilling and employment of visually impaired people. Through its Early Intervention and Inclusive Education initiative, Sarthak has rehabilitated 1500 people with disabilities. Sarthak’s Skill Development Centres have successfully trained 20,000 PwD in sectors like tourism, hospitality, and Organized Retail.

Kaun Banega Crorepati or simply KBC is the Indian version of the famous TV game show ‘Who wants to be a Millionaire’. On Friday, Nov 27 at 9 PM on Sony TV a special episode was played for the PwD or People with Disabilities. The contestants were Dr. Jitendra Aggarwal and wife Suman Aggarwal founder of Sarthak Educational Trust.

A Dentist by profession Dr. Aggarwal developed blur vision due to macular degeneration of the retina. Disheartened by this sudden change and becoming dependant on others, he got trained in screen readers to carry out daily tasks and eventually decided to focus on helping people with disabilities to become independent and learn new skills.

Eventually, the duo started an organization to help people with disabilities. Sarthak has helped visually impaired people to get employment in the field of medical transcription and gain financial empowerment. The organization focuses on skill development of the differently-abled, identifying and preventing disability at early stages in children, and encouraging more PwD to study and gain self-employment.

Here are some TV grabs from the TV show that I watched last night.

Sarthak has helped countless differently-abled men and women to stand up for themselves and fight for their rights through their organization. They have 16 offices in 12 cities in India including Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Lucknow, and others. I have marked them all on Google Maps and also have published a list of these locations:

The KBC TV show helped me discover this organization working for PwD and I plan to visit their office in Delhi and Gurugram to learn more and possibly volunteer for their activities.

I hope this post inspires local guides to identify similar organizations in their locality and mark them on Google Maps to eventually help those in need to discover and take the benefits of the various services and opportunities that the organizations have to offer.

I fully comprehend the impact of MD and hence appreciate the initiative.

Nevertheless, it would be worth visiting the place to understand it’s in-depth functioning.

Thank you @C_T for the suggestion.

I plan to visit their office in Delhi and Gurugram soon to learn more and possibly volunteer for their activities.
