A Wild Fruit & A Father’s Memory – Trincomalee Whispers
While exploring the calm and green outskirts of Trincomalee, my daughter and I came across a tree that caught our attention. Beneath its shade, we found a humble, sticky fruit called “Naruvili” (நறுவிலி)– also known locally as மூக்கு சளி பழம்.

At first glance, it looked strange – soft, jelly-like, and glistening in the sunlight.
But when we tasted it… oh my, what a surprise!
To take it a step further, we tried something truly village-style:
We mixed the naruvili fruit with raw woodapple, added a pinch of salt and roasted chili powder and crushed it all together.
The result?
A spicy-sour herbal explosion in the mouth —
simple, raw, and deeply satisfying!

A Memory Etched in Taste
There we were — my daughter and I — laughing, tasting, and enjoying this unexpected treat under the open sky. No cameras, no crowds, just us and nature’s little gifts.
It’s one of those small, beautiful moments that lingers longer than any expensive meal.
Location: A quiet path near Trincomalee (Velveri Kulam)
Experience: A flavorful bonding moment, straight from nature
