The art of India is carved in stone.
Jaisalmer in the western part of India is a mid-sized town where the streets are lined with houses and mansions that display glorious art and carvings in the front facades.
I visited here last summer and took a stroll through the lanes to feel the vibes of the town.
I was stunned to see the passion put into decorating homes with fine stonework.
The type of arch over this window is called the Bangla.
The 3 smaller Bangla arches within the larger window make it unique.
Made from golden-yellow sandstone these are exquisite forms of craftsmanship, which amazed me beyond words.
The door is made of Seesham wood while there is artistic exuberance all over the wall, all carved in the stone only found in the quarries near Jaisalmer.
The intricate designs of this house reminded me that 'Beauty perishes in life, but is immortal in art".
And I didn’t want to blink my eyes for a second as I walked past these mesmerizingly beautiful houses and mansions of Jaisalmer.
When I looked at the sky, I witnessed shining examples of peak of human artistry.
These are Jharoka windows and Jali nets carved in stone allowing cool air to pass inside and allowing a nice view of the outside activities.
Here’s another house that has an impressive cusped arch entrance.
Can anything in this mortal world surpass this…? I don’t think so!
Lanes after lanes, across the city are endless examples of beautifully decorated, doors, windows, walls, and balconies.
The intricate and awe-inspiring carvings in Jaisalmer are so extraordinary that they defy description through mere words.
As I continued to walk through the narrow lanes of the city of Jaisalmer in India, I was left speechless by the sheer magnificence of these carvings.
Almost everyone in the town has done some beautification within their measures.
Truly! the forms of beauty of Jaisalmer are truly beyond verbal expression.
From the sands of the Thar Desert to the glory of Rajput, Rajasthan will never lose its charm.
Jaisalmer houses and mansions are beautiful places full of amazing art.
This mansion belongs to one of the richest merchants in town.
The Patwa Haveli is now converted into a museum.
The design of these Haveli mansions displayed a perfect chorus of Jharoka windows, Chhajjas, and Jali networks carved in stone, imparting an exotic vibe to the town.
The artistic stonework in Jaisalmer stands as a remarkable testament to India’s rich architectural and cultural heritage.
