I had a very happy trip to Castle Point to see the lighthouse. From Wellington, we have to cross Petone, then Rimutaka Crossing, Masterton and then the castle points. Along the way, we can see a flock of sheep, horses farm and other things. It takes about 2 h and half (163.5 km) from Wellington to Castle point.
Even though we could access to almost everywhere in New Zealand but I consider Castle Point the remote area so better prepared in advanced. I believe that locals are aware of such things but I also see many international visitors who can hire a car and drive themselves. If you ever plan to visit Wellington and see most of the scenic view of lighthouse in Castle Point, you may take these into consideration.
Beware of winery road from Wellington to Castle Point.
Beware of strong wind at Castle Point
Stopping at Rimutaka crossing for picturesque view on winery road.
Spending the night at the castle point for sunset and sunrise. It is beautiful!
Camper van is very common in NZ and hiring it is relatively easy. Any park or inn would provide the facility for camper van, cooking and kitchen. A private car should come with sleeping gears.
Best option to travel out of town is to pack your own grocery and meals (no shopping or mart nearby, especially at Castle Point). Some beaches provide barbecue spots where you can cook, clean and eat your meal. Most of the parks or places where you park you car/van provide facilities such as kitchen, utensils and cutleries.
If you love fishing, do bring the gears, so much fish and very good spot for that!
If you love wind surfing, you can also do it here. Very windy beach!
Very attractive place with attractive capture of beautiful scenery.Very much liked the grazing horses and sheeps…The horses postrures are very attractive @Sophia_Cambodia .
This place is beautiful, full of greenery and wonderful animals . You have captured amazing photographs . Thanks for sharing the important details to be considered while visiting “Castle point” @Sophia_Cambodia
@fasi6083 thank you my friend for such a motivated comment. I am glad you love them. Hiring a van, or a car in New Zealand is so relatively easy and you are allowed to ride with your own driving license (they drive on the left though). Many visitors choose to travel that way, cheaper and get a chance to see many places during your trip!*
Haven’t heard from you for quite a long time @AdamGT , how have you been and everything? You said you are still in the lockdown? I hope everything is going well and you take the time to enjoy a bit!
@TusharSuradkar once this ends, I think we can travel freely again. New Zealand is such a beautiful country, especially South Island. This is in North Island though! Thank you for your beautiful comments, as always!*
Hello @Sophia_Cambodia and thank you for asking. I’ve been here, adding some posts which perhaps you haven’t seen, reading and commenting on many others like yours here, and lurking in between all this lol. Yes we came out of lockdown #1 but then COVID clusters/outbreaks came with jumps positive tests and in people needing intensive care, which I understand resulted from some mistakes regarding enforcement of quarantine so now we are back into full lockdown again with new restrictions, lockdown #2. Things might get worse! It’s hard to enjoy things when you are in full lockdown and your travel plans have derailed as they have for me. Hoping you are safe and well too.
@AdamGT that is so unfortunate but I think it is better safe than sorry. My plans also impacted by the pandemic even we don’t have strict rules about lockdown. We need to be patient and relax a bit in time like this. I hope you can overcome this, until then, be well.*
@helga19 thank you my dear, I never got so closed to them like that. The horses really amazed me when I called them “come to me baby**” they all walked to me and let me touched them *
