Trees play a vital role in this ecosystem and we share a symbiotic relation with them. As much as trees depend on our care and nurture to grow, we depend on them for our survival equally or even to a larger extent. If we step back and give it a thought we know that trees are the ones who influence the favorable conditions for our persistence, may it be through supply of oxygen or modulating rain. Lush green forests used to be expanded in all four directions in the olden times. But as the human population went on rising, we started to invade their lands for our own settlements. And within a glance in this cosmic timeline, forests and trees started vanishing.
But in this bleak conclusion, there is still a glimmer of hope where a few nature-friends within us take efforts to protect our natural heritage. In my city, Kolhapur, one such place is the surrounding of Rankala lake which lies in the heart of the city. The formation of this lake dates back to 200 years and since that time all the trees that had been planted around it have been meticulously preserved. The varieties of tree here include Banyan tree, Peepal tree, Coconut tree etc.
Over the time, different areas along the peripheral of the lake have been converted into various public spots like walkways, gardens and play-ground for children. But throughout the process intensive care has been taken to not harm the trees, and utilize their presence to flourish the beauty of the spots.
The trees in this vicinity add such a clarity and charm to it that whoever enters the place feels peaceful and serene.
This post is related to trees, this is why I haven’t provided the details and more information regarding the Lake Rankala itself. I will share about it with you in another post.
I hope you liked this post.
