A small guide to the Bulgarian capital, Sofia

Sights of Sofia, in 4 hours. We went around the main attractions of Sofia on the first day. All the temples and churches compactly collected in the city center.

What to see in the center of Sofia?

Vitosha Boulevard is the main pedestrian street in Sofia, there are many cozy cafes, hookahs, and evenings by visiting artists.

Church of Alexander Nevsky - the main temple of Sofia. Big and beautiful church (By the way, there is a flea market near the church of Alexander Nevsky, on which various interesting things are sold. For example, Souvenir since World War II).

Ruins of ancient Serdica - ancient city

Black Mosque - which is not at all a mosque and a church. But once upon a time there was a mosque. The temple is also called “Sveti Sedmochislenitsi Church”

Holy Week Cathedral is a beautiful cathedral in Sofia. Named after the holy martyr.

Russian Embassy church of St. Nicholas - a beautiful church, the mere sight of which the heart contracts. Around the church is a small park with birches.

Here, in principle, the most interesting temples. But you understand that this is not all. :slightly_smiling_face:

What else can you see in Sofia?

If you walk through the city parks - there are many of them. You can be inspired by the facades of buildings - they are very interesting in Sofia.

Where and what to eat in Sofia?

What pleased Sofia was the abundance of delicious food. Indian, Chinese, Thai restaurants. Vegetarian restaurants with Bulgarian and European cuisine. Russian store “Birch”, where you can buy a herring under a fur coat, red caviar and ravioli!

I tried to remember the most delicious places. :slightly_smiling_face: I recommend it!

“Divak” is a place where both Bulgarian and European cuisine is tasty and inexpensively prepared. Suitable for lunch and dinner, no breakfast. Do not smoke inside. It was fun to watch the locals go on a smoke break and take a glass of beer or a glass of wine with them - there is something like a bar counter in front of the restaurant. Examples of prices: Greek salad - 4.89 leva, cream soup in bread (350 ml) - 4.69 leva, the dish “fried pork with a side dish and sauce” - 7.59 leva.

“Happy Bar & Grill” - large menu, international cuisine. Good portions, delicious. For the average budget.

“Ivailo” - a Chinese restaurant. Designed for large companies, portions are simply huge.

I liked best “Divakov” and “Happy Bar & Grill”. We came in on one of the restaurants in the center of Sofia. The interior is beautiful, but the service and food were not very pleasant: they were prepared for a long time, brought in a row.

In Sofia a lot of street food. You can always buy a burger, slice of pizza and coffee. Of pubs and bars for yourself, we have identified the lounge famous Buddha Bar, which operates around the clock.

Soon I will write about my journey to Bulgaria.

Amazing pictures and nice description @IgorVats …

Sofia looks like an ancient city, with its heritage still preserved. Could you tell more about this temple? To which faith is it dedicated to? Are Hindu Gods worshipped here?

Hi @IgorVats

Great photos! I think you’ve seen the main parts of Sofia. How did you like it? I hope you’re enjoying your time to the fullest. Did you manage to visit NDK (National Palace of Culture)? It’s at the end of the pedestrian street Vitosha, with a park that opens in front it. It’s a wonderful spot in Sofia with the park and just the openness of it.

Thanks,

Danni
