A Proud Moment: Sharing Cambodia’s Voice as a Panelist at Connect Live Singapore

Joining Connect Live Singapore was already a special experience for me, but being selected as one of the panelists made this journey even more meaningful.

I was one of five Local Guides invited to join the panel discussion and share our community experiences. I know that I am not very strong at speaking English, especially on a big stage, but I reminded myself that I was not speaking only for myself. I was bringing the voice, stories, challenges, and spirit of Cambodia Local Guides with me.

During the panel, I shared how I started as a quiet Local Guide, how I became more active on Connect, and how we have worked together to build the Cambodia Local Guides community. I also talked about our meetups, mapping activities, community training, and the importance of helping people understand that Local Guides is more than collecting points.

For me, Local Guides is about helping real people, improving information, supporting local businesses, and giving communities a voice on the map. I may not speak much, but I take action.

Standing on the stage at Google’s office in Singapore was both exciting and challenging. I may not have spoken perfect English, but I spoke honestly from my experience and from my heart.

I am proud that Cambodia had a voice in this international discussion. This moment was not only my achievement. It belongs to everyone in our Cambodia Local Guides community who has joined our meetups, shared ideas, reported map problems, contributed photos, edited information, and supported our journey.

Thank you to the Google Local Guides team for trusting me and giving me this opportunity. Thank you also to all the other panelists and Local Guides who encouraged me before and after the session.

This experience gave me more confidence and reminded me that our stories are valuable, even when we are nervous or when English is not our first language.

Cambodia was on the stage, and I was honored to help bring its voice there. :cambodia:

@SophatCHY Congratulations! :trophy: What a wonderful experience to be able to share your perspective on stage at Connect Live  I completely understand how you feel – I also had the opportunity to take part in a panel discussion during Connect Live in Dublin, so I know just how nerve-wracking it can be. To be honest, the last time I felt that stressed was during my driving test  Congratulations once again! :sparkling_heart: These are amazing memories, but also a great way to push past your boundaries
