A Place Where Kings Still Honor Tradition and Worship

First of all thanks a lot @DurgaK03 for this wonderful challenge .

Chhatrapati shahu Maharaj rajmahal (old palace)
Located in the sacred surroundings of the famous Ambabai (Mahalaxmi) Temple, the Old Palace of Kolhapur offers a beautiful journey into the glorious era of Maratha history. The palace experience usually begins from the historic Bhavani Mandap, which itself reflects the grandeur of royal gatherings and traditional architecture.

(BHAVANI MANDAP)

As you enter through Bhavani Mandap, you can see a memorial pillar dedicated to Olympic participants, where the names of athletes are displayed — a proud reminder of Kolhapur’s strong sporting legacy.

(MEMORIAL PILLAR)

One of the most important attractions inside the palace is the Tulja Bhavani Temple, which holds deep religious and cultural significance.

The royal throne associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj reflects the powerful Maratha heritage, while the statue of Rajarshi Shahu Maharaj stands as a symbol of progressive leadership and social reform.

Inside the palace, visitors can see traditional wooden furniture, decorative items, and daily-use objects that give a glimpse into the royal lifestyle of earlier times.

The collection of old weapons such as swords, shields, guns, and cannons highlights the military strength and defense system of that era. Historic paintings and old photographs beautifully capture royal ceremonies and important historical moments.

There are also several animal statues and displays, which add a unique historical touch and reflect royal traditions connected with wildlife and hunting culture. Religious idols and ceremonial objects used during royal rituals enhance the spiritual atmosphere within the palace.

The carved wooden pillars, grand arches, and traditional Maratha architectural elements make the Old Palace a place where history, culture, and spirituality come together. Overall, starting from Bhavani Mandap and situated near the sacred Ambabai Temple, the Old Palace stands as a proud symbol of Kolhapur’s royal heritage and glorious past.
There is no wheelchair accessibility inside the palace. Many things shifted in new place but old is gold .
No matter whether it is a special program or a festival, the royal family personally visits this place to perform worship and preserve their cultural traditions — this is one of the unique features of this place.
