A piece of tranquility in the heart of Dhaka: Ramakrishna Math and Mission

Hello LG Friends,
Recently, I visited the Ramakrishna Math and Mission, one of the prominent Hindu pilgrimage sites in Dhaka, with my family. Today, I’ve decided to share my experience of this temple with all of you.

In a word, this temple is extraordinary. Its stunning architecture is bound to mesmerize you. With its massive white domes and arched structures, the temple is a unique specimen of modern architecture. As soon as you step inside, you feel a profound sense of silence and serenity. If you are looking for a place to meditate or sit in a peaceful environment for a while, there are very few places better than this. The atmosphere in the evening is completely different, the scent of incense and the sound of the Arati bells create a deeply spiritual ambiance. Daily worship of Sri Ramakrishna, evening Arati, bhajans, and religious discourses are held here.

Establishment and History
This is a branch center of the Belur Math (located in Howrah, West Bengal), established to propagate the ideals of Sri Ramakrishna. It is both a spiritual and philanthropic organization. Following the establishment of the main Mission in Kolkata by Swami Vivekananda in 1897, its activities in Dhaka began in 1899, and it received full recognition in 1916.

Service Activities
Various social welfare activities are conducted here. For instance, there is a Healthcare center (Medical clinic) where medical services are provided at a low cost, and in some cases, for free. During national disasters, relief aid is also distributed from here.
Additionally, there is a rich and peaceful Library, operated as part of the Mission’s ideology. It houses a vast collection of books on religious texts, spirituality, philosophy, history, and literature. Books on the lives and teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda are especially available here at affordable prices.

Accommodation
There is limited accommodation available for devotees and initiates. However, it is not a commercial hotel or a general lodge. Certain rules must be followed to stay here. If you wish to stay, you must contact the Mission authorities well in advance to confirm your booking. Valid identification (NID or Passport) and references may also be required. Usually, priority is given to those visiting for religious ceremonies, festivals, or spiritual practices. If accommodation within the Mission is unavailable, there are several good residential hotels in the surrounding area within walking distance.

How to Reach
To reach this temple from any part of the country, you first need to get to the Motijheel Bus Stand. From here, you can reach the temple in just a few minutes by autorickshaw.
