Starbucks Reserve Roastery Shanghai (星巴克上海烘焙工坊店 / xingbake shanghai hongbei gongfang dian) opened in the end of 2017. It located in West Nanjing Road (南京西路 / nanjing xilu), where the second floor of this Starbucks Reserve is connected to 兴业太古汇 / xingye taikuhui / Taikoo Hui Mall.
It is convenient to reach this place by riding Shanghai Metro. You could ride the metro to Line 2, alighting at West Nanjing Road metro 南京西路站 / nanjing xilu zhan station Exit 3, then walking for about 300 m to Starbucks Reserve Roastery.
On the first floor, they display and sell variant of coffee products, coffee beans, chocolate, cakes, pastries (my paradise for sure ?), mug, and the other Starbucks merchandises. There is also Green Bean Station as the first stop, where the coffee beans will be emptied, then transferred until roasting. There are roasters located on both the first and second floor that will release coffee beans’ potential flavor after popping twice.
One of the main visual attraction is the tall and big Copper Cask with Starbucks Reserve logo and calligraphy in Chinese characters. This is the place to set and store the coffee beans in order to preserve their flavor. So COOL!
In front of the Copper Cask on the the first floor, there is Package Station, where the they will pack the roasted coffee into the packaging, then ship to Starbucks stores across China.
The second floor is more for Tea Lovers. They provide variant of fragrant tea leaves where we could smell it on the display, and also variant of Starbucks merchandises.
To order the food and drink, we could ask the waiter/waitress here for the menu, choose what we want, pay at the cashier, then wait in our seat until they serve it to our table.
巧克力麦芬 / qiaokeli maifen / Chocolate Muffin (CNY 30)
Since the first time I saw this chocolate muffin when I looked around the cakes and pastries display, I fell in love with this one. It is a good companion with a coffee either in hot or cold serving. This muffin has a thick cake texture with crunchy crumble, and filled with melted chocolate. Less sweet and so tasty!
烟熏司考寄拿铁 / yanxun sikao ji natie / Smoked Butterscotch Latte 335 mL (CNY 52)
One of the recommended hot coffee drink from Starbucks Reserve Roastery as part of the Roastery creations that we cannot miss! The coffee is served on a nice black mug, consisting of espresso and milk infused with a small amount of smoked butterscotch. The taste is not bitter and less sweet. What a good combination!
This is incredible! I am #TeamCoffee as well. Even though, I also enjoy a warm cup of tea.
I have never seen such a big Starbucks cafe or heard of the Starbucks Reserve Roastery before. Thank you for sharing!
I am used to the ones in Canada and most of them are much smaller, with the exception of the ones connected to a book store. I used to spend a lot of time there reading and studying.
What is your favorite Starbucks drink? The Smoked Butterscotch Latte sounds interesting. Is it specific to your region? I have never heard of it before. My favorite is pumpkin spice latte.
I’ve never seen Starbucks that is connected to a book store before @Ekattotii It sounds good, especially for those who loves reading.
Besides coffee, my favorite drink in Starbucks is their Matcha Green Tea Latte. It’s one the best matcha drink! What about you?
Smoked Butterscotch Latte is not a specific drink in a region. Actually, it is a winter special edition drink, and part of the Roastery creations menu.
I guess book stores connected to Sturbucks is a thing in Canada. I used spend a lot of time there scrolling through interesting books or studying while also enjoying a cup of coffee. They even had Sturbucks at the university library.
The Matcha Green Tea Latte sounds nice. I do not think I have tried it. Thanks for the idea.
My favorite is Pumpkin Spice Latte. Unfortunately, it is only served during the autumn. Do they make it in your region?
Thanks for sharing the list of all the roasteries around the world. I will write them down, and hopefilly I will get to visit them all one day. I wish the same for you.
That’s also a nice thing to have Starbucks in a university library.
Yes, Pumpkin Spice Latte is also available as a special edition in my country, but I’ve never tried it yet. How’s the taste? Is there any spicy taste in it?
@Velvel , you should definetely try it it once you have the chance. I can´t image the autumn season without it.
It is not spicy at all, it actually has a very unique pumkin flavor to it. The spice itself is often used for pumkin pie and other traditional North American recepies during the fall season.
I will share a photo with you from few years ago. It is not the best, however it will give you an idea of how it looks like. Let me know once you get the chance to try it and whether you liked it.
Great, looking forward to hearing from you once you get the chance to try it. For me, it is not just the good taste, but also the great experience that comes with it. I usually enjoyed it while sitting in a cosy chair, wrapped in an autumn scarf, and with a book beside me.
The drink is typically served hot, I am not sure how it would taste like cold. However, it might be a good idea to try it one day.
@Velvel i think it is very expensive on every item in the Shanghai Starbucks, especially in China; whatever, it’s one famous international city in the world, she has the right…
Yes, the price is expensive, especially here in Starbucks Reserve Roastery as Shanghai’s “special” Starbucks. However, the ambiance and interior are awesome! And the taste is good!
hello @Velvel , yes, i have been there once and tasted the Nanshan Crab Soup Bun in Yu Garden, and still, the pricing in Shanghai is too high compared with other cities in China…
Love the content and all the wonderful Starbuck’s aesthetic. Perfect spot to check out for a world traveler/lover of coffee. Thanks for sharing and keep’em coming…
Cool! That Starbucks has a great atmosphere. Of course, I love it!
The big copper cask and roaster are also amazing but I was surprised that many kinds of tea leaves are sold there. Is it a common style Starbucks in China?
Btw, my regular/favorite drink of Starbucks is (soy) latte
No, it isn’t the common style of Starbucks in China, but since this is a “special” store, so everything is amazing here where we cannot find in regular stores.
Soy latte sounds a good choice. I would like to try non dairy product in Starbucks someday.
I would like to remind you, please add @ before the name to communicate with fellow Local Guides on Connect, so that the one you mentioned will get the notification.
Amazing post! @Velvel I’m more #TeamStarbucks haha I loved the store that you’re sharing here, is pretty impressive. I was surprised by the fact that there are waitress, is the first Starbucks that I see with table service.
I wrote about my experience with **Starbucks **to join the #monthlytopic
Since this is the “signature” version of Starbucks a.k.a Starbucks Reserve, so no wonder that they provide extra service, such as the waiters and waitresses.
