A new issue with Google Maps where reviews are not showing up.

Recently I discovered that replies to reviews were not showing up on my Google Maps. You can find that thread here.

Now tonight, I discovered a review I wrote within the last week, which was showing up, is now not showing up. It shows up for me when I look at my Google reviews. However, when someone else views my reviews, it does not show up under my reviews or under the business’s page. I have noticed this for a couple of reviews I have written and I am unsure of why they are suddenly not able to be seen. All my my reviews are always lengthy and in detail. I try to always include accessibility access or restrictions. My reviews are always written with great thought. So I am just confused as to why this is happening or if this is happening to anyone else. Thank you for reading. Perhaps @ErmesT ? Thank you.

Edited to add: I tried editing my review of the first place I noticed, to see if it would make a difference. (I had a legitimate reason to update, as we had a new experience at the location.) However, the issue still appears to exist. Below I will provide a screen shot of what I see and what followers of mine can see.

The edited review, now shows at the top, as it is considered most recent. Therefore, it should appear at the top of my most recent reviews for those following me.

Here is what I see.

This is also what my followers should see as my most recent review.

Unfortunately, this is what my followers see. The review that should be first, still does not show at all under my profile and does not show up under said business page.

Hi @Alotofstuf

This is not unusual. The AI filter was triggered by some wording or words so your review was made private. It is so that our reviews get rechecked immediately after we edit then. So you can embark on an interesting hunt for what triggered the filter:

If you have an idea (swearing, sexual, promotional, etc) words can trigger the AI filter. Try deleting or re-phrasing those parts one by one and eventually you will find out which phrases/words triggered the filter.

If you have no ides, just copy the entire text to a text editor (to preserve it) and then start cutting the text in half and resubmit until it is no longer private. And then keep adding text back in until you know exactly what the problem was.

Best of luck.

PS Please share your findings

Morten

PS The reason for a review turning private can also be because a business owner contested your review. But making a tiny edit will make it become visible again.

Not all reviews are made visible for many reasons @Alotofstuf they can be because of the wording or they can be because of similar reviews lodged at the same time and many other reasons.

Just an update - when I checked your profile, you have your profile private so your followers anyone else won’t see any content at all unless they happen across a place you’ve reviewed or contributed photos to. The only way followers will see it is to turn off this privacy setting. You’re welcome to keep your contributions private.

If you give me a link to the review I would be happy to give you constructive feedback.

Thank you @MortenCopenhagen for your response. I have removed my review and gave a shorter briefer review. At this time, my reviews are delayed like for most other users as well. At this point, it is still not showing up, but it could be because of the delay. I will go through more of my reviews to see why there is such a sudden change? Perhaps new keywords have been added? I do not know much about the keywords. I just always try to give an accurate and professional review, in meaning, no cursing or using terms that would be considered rude. But perhaps somehow I triggered it. Again, I will keep everyone updated.

@PaulPavlinovich Thank you so much for reaching out. Yes, I have my profile restricted on purpose. But, I was able to confirm my reviews were not showing up by going to the locations on google maps through a chrome incognito tab.

Either way, I have decided to rewrite my review to a smaller more basic review that should not be flagged. My review is currently delayed to show. But I will keep you updated as to what happens and if I am still having trouble, I will show you what I have written. Again thank you all so much for helping!

@Alotofstuf

As far as I know business owners can only flag a review. Maybe @PaulPavlinovich knows more than I do.

You are welcome to just sent the text to me via PM if you would like to @Alotofstuf that way it will stay confidential and you don’t need to reveal your profile to anyone. I would be happy to look at the wording and see if I can make any suggestions.

Hello @PaulPavlinovich

I have sent you a private message. Please let me know when you get it. Thanks so much!

UPDATE TO EVERYONE:

The problem has been fixed. I was unable to “edit” and have it successfully show up. So, I had to completely delete the review and start over. Once I did that, the review showed up.

So what I believe happened is I triggered a series of words that must have hidden the review. In reality, I was trying to explain the accessibility. It is a tricky situation at this location. Anyhow the review is showing up and everything looks great. I will have to go through and see if there are any more that I may have triggered. :disappointed_relieved:

@PaulPavlinovich Please disregard my message. Thank you.

That is interesting @Alotofstuf I looked a the text you sent me for your update and it looked fine to me.

As general advice, I find that keeping the words as neutral as possible helps with visibility. When you’ve got something great to say that doesn’t seem to matter, but on those occasions when you need to say something negative then being careful with the words means more likely success. I wrote an article on it ages ago that might be useful https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t5/General-Discussion/Avoiding-trouble-from-negative-reviews-left-on-Maps/m-p/373141

I am happy that your problem is resolved. I will keep your solution in mind next time I encounter the question. It is good to learn something every day :).

Everyone’s “solutions” are such malarchy and a run-around the real problem with Google Maps Contributions, which we will never be privy to. I am stopping my review writing. I cannot afford wasting all the time it takes to not only write a competent review, but also to try getting answers I need from “HELP” in the menu. Google HELP is worthless, as we all could see!

Hi, I am having the same issue with my longer reviews but I do not think I am using any offensive language or something like that.
Do you have any recommendation for me? Thanks
