During our family trip to Kerala, we attended a most fascinating show – Kathakali in Thekkady, Kerala, India. In Thekkady there are dedicated cultural centers for performing Kathakali (Kerala Traditional Dance ) & Kalaripayattu (Kerala martial art form). The show is performed live in the evening from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Kathakali is a group presentation, in which dancers take various roles in performances traditionally based on themes from Hindu mythology, especially the two epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata.
The interesting make-up code, the colorful faces of the characters, the extraordinary costumes, the body movements and footwork of characters like Rama & Ravana all blend together into a marvelous show at whole another level which keeps us engaged throughout it.
