A Latin soul influence in Austria and the rest of the world.

Hello Folks!

My name is Henry Torres Diaz. I am a 26 years old local guide from Peru, but I am actually living in Austria since July 2015 doing my master studies in automation and control for mechatronic systems. Since I began to travel around Europe, I started to add my pictures on google maps and I saw that those were helping other people to know new places and cultures that don’t exist in the tourist information point. For that reason, I decided to track and document my travels and places I discover.

During my trips, I realized that each city, town or neighborhood is different from another. There is a sense of local visual culture that you will hardly read about in travel guides: everything from the size of a window to the shape of boats – all of these define what people fell about that specific place. Why do some places fell warm and welcoming while other don’t? I think that a big part of is defined by the visual culture of that place.

It is a fact – not every city is the same but there are two cultural markers I look for when I first arrive to a new place. First, it’s the dancing culture – the fastest way to make me feel at home is with a good salsa music. The second one is the food. I love trying new food in local restaurants. If I have the chance to try something directly from a native, I will do it without doubts.

I am sure that my photographs will allow people to better understand a place, a restaurant or a venue they are trying to visit. I know how crucial it is for example to understand the “vibe” of a traditional restaurant through photographs – some restaurants are great to meet friends while some are perfect for a quiet afternoon spent reading. Last year I had the chance to visit my lovely country again and I visited places like Cuzco and Arequipa. I HIGHLY recommend those place to everyone who has never been there yet. Fell free to ask me if you want to know some tips for traveling around Peru!!!

It was and is still impressive the amount of views I always receive of my pictures in google maps. I am so happy when I receive motivating messages related to the information I am sharing through a picture. I am 100% sure that google maps is getting more ECO-friendly, which will benefit to an enormous percent of the population. Technology is evolving so are the apps of Google. As a junior engineer, I think google maps will play an important role in the interconnection not only of vehicles but also of any business, which based its publicity on google maps. (Almost everyone)
