A Journey Through Pamukkale Travertines & Hierapolis Museum

Pamukkale, with its dazzling white travertine terraces and natural hot springs, is one of the most special places in Turkey. Seeing and experiencing this unique landscape was truly special for me. One of my favorite parts was walking barefoot among the travertines. Walking barefoot on the travertines is forbidden. This rule helps protect the natural formations.

After strolling along the white terraces, I went to the Hierapolis Archaeological Museum. The Hierapolis Archaeological Museum is located inside the ancient Roman Baths within the ancient city. In the museum, you can see sculptures, sarcophagi, and various historical artifacts found in the excavations in and around Hierapolis. For me, visiting the museum was quite enjoyable in terms of getting to know the past of Hierapolis more closely.

After leaving the museum, you can reach the Hierapolis Ancient Theatre by taking a short walk uphill. It’s truly impressive how well-preserved the theatre has been to this day. If you climb to the top of the theatre, you can see both the stage and the wide valley below. The view is truly breathtaking.

Here are some tips for visitors:

  • Since walking on the travertines in shoes or sandals is prohibited, I recommend bringing a small bag to carry your belongings.

  • I suggest allocating a full day to comfortably explore the entire area.

  • If you only want to visit the travertines and the museum, allocating at least 3 hours would be ideal.

At the end of the day, I finished my trip by gazing at this unique view once again. Actually, there are many places to visit in the region. However, the weather was quite hot the day I visited, and since I couldn’t stand the heat any longer, I had to end my trip a little early. Pamukkale is truly one of the places worth seeing. I hope you also get the chance to visit this beautiful place someday.
