Hi Local Guide, Happy New Year 2025
During a personal trip to the Chambal region in central India, I discovered a hidden gem the Vankhandeshwar Mandir. This ancient temple is attributed to the renowned Indian king, Prithviraj Chauhan, a celebrated warrior and astute administrator.
Legend has it that while traversing Bhind during a military campaign, King Prithviraj Chauhan experienced a divine vision of God Shiva. Moved by this auspicious encounter, he vowed to construct a temple dedicated to the deity upon his victorious return. True to his word, after emerging triumphant from the battle, he fulfilled his vow by establishing the Vankhandeshwar Mandir.
Within the temple, a revered eternal flame, known as ‘Akhankd Jyoti,’ has been burning continuously for an extended period. Local devotees believe this sacred flame has been burning since the temple’s inception. The local community diligently maintains the temple, wholeheartedly supporting this belief.
During my visit, I observed devotees immersed in prayer, chanting mantras such as 'Om Namah Shivaye’ and other hymns dedicated to God Shiva. While the temple also houses shrines dedicated to other deities, I exercised restraint in photography. Recognizing the sanctity of the space and the meditative practices of some visitors, I limited my photography to capture the the essence of the temple.
The architecture and foundation of Temple was also very old and giving unique view to visitors.
This Community Hall serves as a vital hub for the local community, hosting small gatherings and community prayers. According to local lore, this temple boasts a history that places it among the oldest in India. Every Monday evening, the temple witnesses a significant influx of devotees for the Maha Aarti, a captivating ceremony that draws large crowds. Every year during Maha shivratri big fair is Conducted around temple and premisses.
I was fortunate to have the opportunity to explore this temple and seek the blessings of Lord Shiva. Near this temple I found a lake known as Gauri Lake I will share my complete experience in a separate post. However, I would like to share some photographs with you.
Thanks for reading and giving your valuable time on this post.
