A Home for the Infant Jesus

The Infant Jesus Church in Bengaluru has a unique origin story. In the late 1960s, Reverend Father Paul Kinatukara prayed to the Infant Jesus of Prague to secure a place for a new church, and by what he believed was divine intervention, he found the perfect spot at the Rose Garden. The foundation stone was laid on April 18, 1969.
The new church’s first priest, Reverend Father L. Peter, installed a statue of the Infant Jesus from a nearby church in an old tent on the land, creating a “Tent Church” that drew many devotees for eight years. Despite the undeveloped area, the growing faith of the community was recognized, and the Development Authority eventually approved the construction of a permanent building without any fees.
In 1979, the new Infant Jesus Church was dedicated. The shrine quickly gained a reputation for fulfilling the wishes of its devotees, and the devotion to the Infant Jesus became so widespread that the church is now a famous place of pilgrimage and miracles for people across India.
