Sometimes an unplanned visit to a place gives you a wonderful surprise and stuns by the mere existence of that. I had a similar experience when we visited this ancient temple of Lord Shiva at Khidrapur in Kolhapur district, Maharashtra, India.
Actually, we had planned an over-night trip to one of my friend’s native place, approximately 260 km (around 160 miles) from my home; a 5 hour drive. While returning, we decided to visit my in-laws place at Miraj, and then head back home since we had a good time in our hand.
On that; my friend proposed an alternative interstate route avoiding highway and passing through this place. He somehow convinced us that you won’t regret about this decision. So we finally agreed that. It was a narrow road but good condition and minimum traffic made our travelling easy. After an hour and half drive we reach this village called Khidrapur where the temple of Lord Shiva called Kopeshwar Temple is carved in Khidrapur Cave.
As soon as we entered the gate; I was literally stunned my mere presence of the stone-carved historical, artistic structure of 12th century. It has beautiful carved figures of deities, elephants, male and female performing artists.
Kudos for those amazing photos and captivating description of the Kopeshwar Temple.
