If someone wants to taste the best of Hungarian cuisine in a single tasting menu, I can recommend ZONA restaurant. It’s located in the Buda side of Budapest, right at the foot of the castle hill, with nice view on the Danube shore. …and not only the location is prime, so is the interior: the huge dark wooden wine shelves look fantastic and the restaurant has a very pleasant and cosy atmosphere.
In their tasting menu, you can try 6 different plates, that are seasonally changed. Here are some mouthwatering examples, how they have recreated some classic Hungarian-Central European dishes.
Thanks for sharing this Hungarian cuisine. I saw the restaurant on Google Maps, and it looks so comfortable plus romantic hehehe…
What is your favorite menu there?
I think I would love the dessert Hungarian sponge cake with wine jelly, smoked rhum raisins & ice cream. Never heard about wine jelly before. It must be good!
thanks for the reply, and hope you can have a try soon!
As there are not many seats - less than 40 i would say - it is usually full. Fortunately full doesn’t mean crowded as the interior and the tables are nicely laid out. Yet it is recommended to book in advance for a dinner.
Just today, I’ve revisited for a lunch (they also offer a quick lunch menu), and it was easy just popping in from the street.
Tip: their 6 course tasting menus are sometimes available on coupon sites.
This is one of the best food posts I am reading here @turaibalazs . ZONA seems like a fine dining gourmet restaurant. Mouthwatering menu thanks for sharing this great place.
The cafes and bars I really want to visit in Budapest are the ones with the original 50’s interior.
