Lagos, Nigeria offers one of the very best places in Africa, where Local Guides could take a visitor for a mind blowing experience. Lekki Conservation Centre which covers a land area of 78 hectares and located in Lekki Peninsula, Lagos, is reputed to be one of Africa’s longest canopies (hanging bridge), measuring a walking distance of 401-metres long, about 2 kilometres. Located and tucked-in along the Lekki Epe – Expressway, the Conservation Centre is a hidden treasure waiting for residents and tourists to explore and savor. The centre which was established in 1990, is today’s one of Africa’s prominent modern nature’s parks, known for its grandeur offerings. The conservation and relaxation centre has fantastic natural scenery where as a Local Guide could take visitors to enjoy life’s serenity at its peak. Whether a visitor chooses to voyage down on weekdays or at the weekend, the centre offers a soothing break away from everyday life in the busy city of Lagos.
As a Local Guide, I had searched out and organized a leisure day-out for my spouse and her colleagues at Arla Dairy Products, a subsidiary of Tolaram Group - DANO MILK in Nigeria to have fun filled time at the centre. When my spouse discussed with me, stating that her colleagues at work needed a place for a joint outing, I figured out, the Lekki Conservation Centre would be an excellent choice for the staff during the proposed weekend outing. All together, they were five (5) randomly picked staff who embarked on the canopy walk. After the beautiful outing, I made friends with my spouse’s colleagues; inadvertently, these were beautiful people I never imagined I could meet. The period of time scheduled to be spent, the size of your group and how early you set out will determine the kind of experience you get during your visit. There are various prices for different group of people who could go on the bridge at a time.
As you approach the reserve, you are greeted by lots of coconut trees on both sides of the pathway which crescents to a well laid out car and visitors’ Park. A giant hut stood in middle of the centre leading to a tucked-in and well equipped library. The centre’s wetlands play host to plant and animal life perfectly set aside for wildlife viewing.
Entrance for adults was N2,000 Naira (about $5.5 USD) for the canopy walk. Everyone is at liberty to visit the centre with their own foods and drinks and camera if they wish to take photos of their expedition. As a Local Guide, I encourage you to visit Nigeria’s Lekki Conservation Centre and savor what we’ve got to offer the world.
