Let’s hope Bangkok, Thailand is on your itinerary for a Google Connect Live Pop Up! It’s a big city jam packed with things to see and do! And the beauty and mystery of the gorgeous Thai countryside awaits you! Just stay off the highway and stick to the back roads. They are surprisingly good and each time you go around a corner you are presented with a breathtaking view of a lush green rice field surrounded by banana trees framing a distant hilltop temple, or a towering grove of coconut palms stretching endlessly along their shady and inviting rows. Round another corner and the road brings you face to face with an imposing Buddhist Wat, a mountain vista, or a seemingly endless seashore. Best of all are the roadside country markets where the locals meet up to buy and sell their produce and engage in a little gossip with the neighbors. You have to stop and browse. Most folks will know enough English to help you order something to eat. After all, food itself is a language universally understood but you know that Thais like their vittles on the spicy side. For the nominal sum of about one thin dollar you can get a generous portion of homemade curry, or 10 barbecued satay skewers. There will be fresh papaya, mango, and other fruits to enjoy which you may never have heard about. Go ahead and try the durian. It really is better than chocolate!
Anyway, I digress. Wasn’t i talking about Bangkok? In fact, Bangkok has street vendors, mega malls, fresh markets, you name it! It’s here! Are you in the market for a Designer bag? Check out the Emquartier. It’s not only an architecturally splendid skyscraper it’s also an upscale, haute couture fashionista’s paradise that is equally as chic as any Parisian grand magasin. Now for a rowdier, more robust shopping experience complete with haggling prices in the authentic Thai tradition check out the Platinum mall. It’s to clothes what the North Pole is to toys. Floor upon floor with aisle after aisle of mini shops hawking good, cheap clothes. You could board your flight with no checked luggage, pocket the savings and just come here on day one and still come out ahead.
Mass transit connects places conveniently in Bangkok and in fact, it’s a harmless indulgence of schadenfreude to lazily stroll along the skywalk over the streets of Bangkok as you look below and enjoy the stunning sight of rivers of cars snaking away into the distance in some of the world’s worst traffic jams!
No worries. The BTS Skytrain and the MRT subway go to lots of places and public transportation is cheap and plentiful. For short forays away from the commuter train lines try a motorcycle taxi. You won’t be bored as the driver skillfully pilots you through the streets breaking most of the traffic laws of both your country and his own. For longer trips you can catch a van from one of the many stations around the city. There are hubs for long distance van rides to every city in the country. Ditto for bus stations and, of course, you can catch a train from one of the major Bangkok stations to go North, South, East, or West as well.
Bring on the Google Guides! There is myriad of markets to explore, restaurants to review, and a super nightlfe to notify the world about!
Coming Next : Hong Kong! As organized as Bangkok is random!

Wow I will be in Lagos and would be glad to attend and connect with other local tour guides in Lagos.
Hope to see Benin City, Nigeria among your stops soon!
Enjoy Lagos! good place to stop, hope you have no wohala!
Wow! I’m unable to get to the Lagos link up but would love if you came to Birmingham UK. A great welcoming city, with lots to offer. Visit the Bullring, Grand Central, Resorts World, Football stadiums such as Aston Villa, theatres, Touchwood Centre in Solihull and so much more great places for us to Connect. Drayton Manor theme park isn’t too far out neither.
The prospect of a pop-up event near me, is VERY exciting!
Any plans to visit Guelph, or perhaps Toronto???
