8 Years on Google Maps — More Than Just a Journey

Eight years ago, I made my first contribution on Google Maps. At that time, I never imagined that a simple contribution would slowly become such an important part of my life.

Today, Google has completed 8 years of my contribution journey with an incredible milestone:

23,152 contributions
55,938,977 total views
4,011 reactions on photos
170,959 points earned

But when I look at these numbers, I don’t see numbers alone.
I see a journey filled with people, places, experiences and memories.

My journey started with exploring places around me and sharing what I knew. Gradually, I discovered the wonderful world of the Local Guides community. What began as contributing to Maps became an opportunity to connect with people who share the same passion for exploring, helping and sharing local knowledge.

:world_map: From Maps to Road Mapping

One of the most interesting parts of my journey has been road mapping.

Mapping roads taught me that even a small contribution can make a real difference. Every road added or corrected felt like adding another small piece to a much bigger map.

It also changed the way I look at the places around me. I started noticing roads, neighbourhoods, businesses and small details that I might otherwise have simply passed by.

:handshake: From Online Connections to Real Friendships

Then came the meet-ups.

Meeting fellow Local Guides in person was a completely different experience. People whom I had known through posts and online conversations suddenly became real friends.

Every meet-up brought new conversations, new ideas and new memories. It reminded me that behind every contribution is a person with a story.

And the Local Guides community has been one of the most beautiful parts of this journey—a community where people from different cities, backgrounds and countries come together through a common passion.

:globe_showing_asia_australia: Connect Live 2025 — A Memory I Will Always Cherish

And then came one of the biggest highlights of my journey—Connect Live 2025 in Bengaluru.

Being there with Local Guides from different parts of the world was an unforgettable experience. It was not just an event; it was an opportunity to learn, share, laugh, connect and create memories.

Sometimes a journey becomes special because of a particular destination.
For me, Connect Live became special because of the people I met there.

:writing_hand: My Posts — My Way of Sharing the Journey

Over the years, my journey also found its way into posts.

Writing posts gave me a chance to share not only places but also ideas, experiences, stories and the things I care about. From local discoveries to community activities and different challenges, every post became a small piece of my journey.
I realised that contributing isn’t always about adding something to a map.
Sometimes, contributing means sharing a story that inspires someone else to explore.

 The Best Part? The People

Looking back, the most valuable thing I have gained is not the points, views or badges.

It is the people.

Friends from different cities and countries.
People I met at meet-ups.
People I connected with through posts.
People who inspired me to contribute more.
And a community that made this journey so much more meaningful.
I want to share some of the best persons from community :backhand_index_pointing_right::backhand_index_pointing_right: @TravellerG , @TusharSuradkar , @AjitThite , @Kumaarsantosh , @SharmaK , @shaileno , @PrasadVR , @Shrut19 , @EshaHarish , @NareshDarji , @KetanChhaniyara , @ShubhamWaman , @Praniketmore , @Rushikesh_joshi , @DurgaK03 , @SayliWalve , @SholaIB , @MarcoDavoli , @Raj_Tayade , @shubhangipatil, @Gurukrishnapriya , @RosyKohli , @Rahul001 , @KashifMisidia , @SonamW ,@doc_dells , @FalguniP ,@Erna_LaBeau , @ErmesT and so many of them who are incredible and very helpful personalities.

8 years. Thousands of contributions. Millions of views. Countless memories.

And yet, I feel this is not the end of the journey.

It is simply another milestone on the road.

The map keeps changing.
Places keep changing.
People keep coming into our lives.
And there are still so many stories waiting to be discovered and shared.

So, here’s to the next road, the next place, the next post, the next meet-up—and the next beautiful memory.

Thank you, Google Maps and the Local Guides community, for making these 8 years so much more than just contributions.
This is my journey. And I’m still mapping it. :world_map::sparkles:Absolutely.

Dear @Supriyadevkar,

What an incredible milestone; 8 wonderful years of being a Local Guide, along with such impressive numbers. Heartiest congratulations on this amazing journey. :tada: :tada: :tada:

What I find most inspiring is that your journey is not merely about the numbers or the contributions. It beautifully reflects what the Local Guides community is truly all about; exploring, learning, sharing, connecting, and growing together.

Sometimes, simply stepping out and exploring the world around us can open our minds to new perspectives and unlock a completely different way of seeing our surroundings. Every map edit, photo, review, and piece of information you have shared has not only improved Google Maps but has also helped someone, somewhere, navigate their world a little better.

And then comes the most beautiful part of the journey; the people we meet along the way. Your transition from making simple contributions on Google Maps to building genuine and lasting friendships is a wonderful example of how this community goes far beyond the map. Your memories from Connect Live 2025 are a beautiful reminder that contributions may bring us to the community, but relationships and shared experiences make us stay.

Thank you for your incredible dedication and for inspiring others through your journey. As I always believe, behind every contribution there is a person, a story, an experience, and often a beautiful connection waiting to happen.

Keep exploring, keep contributing, keep sharing, and most importantly, keep building those wonderful connections.

The journey continues… and the best stories are yet to be written.

Congratulations on completing eight incredible years, @Supriyadevkar ji

What a fantastic journey, and those numbers are truly remarkable. But I completely agree with you—the real achievement is the people, friendships, and especially the experiences.

Personally, I give a lot of importance to the experience. When you meet or interact with a fellow Local Guide, the feeling you take away from that interaction becomes a part of your journey and creates a memory that stays with you.

& the fact that you have mentioned me in your eight-year journey post means that, somewhere, I am a small part of your book of memories. :open_book::glowing_star: That is genuinely a very big thing for me.

I’m truly happy to be a small part of your journey. Wishing you many more years of mapping, exploring, connecting, and creating beautiful experiences! :globe_showing_europe_africa::sparkles::sparkles::sparkles:
