Hi all… thought i would make this post not really to toot my horn or even out of pride, but I didn’t realize since the major curtailmen of photo views a couple years back that a photo could gain over 4 million views in 6 months. This is interesting and cool.
I almost did not take this photo. I was exhausted and we were driving home and my girlfriend said, hey an outside view of Nordstrom. I was like nah, stupid photo. She said just snap it, decide later. I took this out of my car window and it became my most viewed and worst photo I ever took.
In sum, take photos! You really never know how the algorithm plays out.
Thought I would include a few names of the regular posters here for curiosity sake. Lol.

Congratulations on that, @StevenBerlin. I’ve never had a 4 million views photo before nor after the changes, but every time I go back through my list, I get a few surprises. Of course you know a 100,000 or a 50,000 views photo gives me just as much pleasure as you big city guys with 3 million or 4 million view items.
I have a few local ones from recent months at just under 20,000 as well as some from an overseas trip showing 303,568 and 281,625 for Walmart and 134,241 and 129,111 for Best Buy. But these are the rare exceptions for me.

What comes in addition:
Even if the algorithms decided to feature your photo, it would never be seen if nobody searches the place. In other words, you can never get millions of views for a restaurant which only has a dozen seats.
Ah!! That explains why I don’t get millions of views for restaurants that locals don’t visit regularly, and tourism numbers fluctuate based on seasons.
That’s amazing, Steven! What makes the story even more interesting is that you almost didn’t take the photo at all.
It really shows how unpredictable photo performance on Maps can be. Sometimes a simple photo we don’t think much about ends up being useful to millions of people.
4 million views in such a short time is impressive. Thanks for sharing the story behind it…definitely a good reminder to keep taking useful photos!
