Hello fellow Local Guides ![]()
Today, I’m taking a moment to look back at a journey that started 6 years ago. What began as a simple desire to help people find their way has turned into a massive mission of community building and data accuracy. What started as a way for me and my friend to discover historical landmarks, get to hidden spots in the city of Ogbomoso and Oke-ogun in Oyo state, Nigeria, to find out the easiest & fastest route to get to our destination turned out to be making Google map a more reliable and helpful place for everyone, whether they are locals like me or tourist
I am thrilled to share that I have officially hit my 6-year milestone on Google Maps

A Message to My Fellow Guides:
To the new contributors: Keep going. Every photo you upload and every road you add makes the world a smaller, more accessible place. To the veterans: Thank you for the inspiration. As a road mapper and a tourist at heart, I’m not stopping here. Let’s keep mapping the future together.
Fun fact: I joined the local guide community last year’s August and was introduced to the Nigeria local guide community by chinonso in September 2025. I got to meet shola, Patrick and one other local guide at my first meetup at Ile iyan, Lagos, Nigeria.
I remember shola asking me about my road stat and I told him I’ve only added 56 roads on google map and he was like I can do better. I’ve been under Shola’s mentorship on road mapping since then and it turned out to be a good one.
