Greetings to everyone.
I am Mohammad Firoz Kabir from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Through nearly a year of continuous effort, I have added over 5,000 kilometers of roads to the Google Road Mapper platform. This 5,000 km milestone is very special to me.
Although I’ve been connected with the Google Road Mapper platform for more than two years, for the past 10 months, I have tried to contribute almost daily, except during family vacations. As a result, I have been able to reach the 5,000 km milestone.
I always try to ensure that even if I can’t complete too many challenges, the quality of my mapping remains 100% accurate. Because of this, almost 100% of the roads I add get accepted, which I consider an achievement equivalent to receiving an award.
However, I have noticed a few issues on the Google Road Mapper platform, which, if brought to the attention of @Googlers and Road Mapping @moderators, could benefit everyone:
1. Excessive road drawing gets accepted on the Google Road Mapper platform. Many mappers incorrectly draw roads where no roads actually exist — sometimes over rivers or public property. When such roads are accepted, it leads to confusion for users. While corrections can be submitted, it’s not always possible. A feature like “Report a Route” or “Remove a Route” could be added to improve this.
2. Contributions made by Google Road Mappers could be shown on the main point board of Google Local Guides. This would encourage more contributions from Road Mappers.
3. Badges based on contributions could be awarded to mappers in the Connect forum, which would increase the popularity of the Google Road Mapper platform.
I’ve shared my achievements and a few humble ideas to the best of my limited knowledge. Please forgive any mistakes.
Your feedback and suggestions will help me make higher-quality contributions and become a better Local Guide.
A big congratulations to you on this achievement. This is a huge figure. You have worked really hard.
We are starting an event on Road mappers next Wednesday 1st of October. The event is called TORM !!!. We are working together as local guides to complete 3,000 challenges on Road Mappers.
Please feel free to join us. There is a registration form you’ll need to fill so that we can all work together. Let’s know what you think about this. See you around.
Awesome work, @MdFerozKabir, on both your KM accomplishment and your consistency! 100% acceptance of roads is very commendable.
We can remove roads on Road Mapper. Just hit the ‘S’ key for ‘Select,’ choose the segment that shouldn’t be there, and hit the Delete key. When you’re ready to get back to drawing, just hit the ‘D’ key.
That’s an awesome number in less than a year @MdFerozKabir. I’m at 3,500 in just over two years. It’s always a good feeling to see that 100% approval rate. My August report showed a slight dip to 95%, but it’s still way above the success level on the other Google Maps desktop road editor.
Your suggestion about points and badges is good. Some of us are trying to find out why Google treats the two different road mapping systems so differently.
Unfortunately, it is difficult to “increase the popularity” of Road Mapper, as it is an invitation-only program and no new persons have been accepted for a long time.
Thanks & love @JustJake .
The inspiration of senior local guides like you will motivate us to work. I was not aware of the option to select and delete roads on the Road Mapper platform, I hope to be able to make more qualitative contributions using this technique in the future.
Thanks & love @tony_b . Congratulations on your 3500 km road mapping. 95% approval rate and praise worthy. Hopefully we will benefit people through road mapping.
