Last 4th February 2023 I and @MahabubMunna bhai visited 3 historical places in Sonargaon. One of these historic places is Goaldi Mosque. I have had the opportunity to visit this place several times before. I introduce this place to all the local guides I know when they visit historical sites in Sonargaon. The place actually feels in the mind know what! I feel very small in front of this 500-year-old structure. It seems that those who built this structure were so great and kind.
Sonargaon was the capital of independent Bengal before the Mughal period. Sonargaon was the capital of Bar Bhuiyan Isha Khan, Musa Khan, and independent sultans. Sultans built many Buildings, Mosques, Khanqahs, and Tombs for their own needs. Then, the stone-built Sultan Giyas Uddin Azam Shahâs mausoleum and Goaldi Mosque located in Sonargaon Mograpara are among them.
This ancient mosque was established in 1519 by Mullah Hizbar Akbar Khan. Independent sultans once used this 500-year-old mosque to pray. Due to the passage of time, it exists in an abandoned state today.
This building has decayed in various parts. The Directorate of Archeology of Bangladesh is currently responsible for conserving these antiquities. Every day, travelers in the city come to see a domed monument lost in time. No ticket is required to visit this small establishment. The place is open to all. Any day of the week, you can visit.
Yes @SachinVijayan brother, you are right. Sometimes government ignored this kind of issue. Hope government will take care much more & with longtime plan. Thanks for you valuable reply & asking question.
Thanks for the share @MehadeHasan and lovely photos! I hope that the government (and local council and community too) will put in the effort to help preserve such places too!
I was fascinated to read about the 500-year-old Goaldi Mosque and its incredible history. It is fantastic to think about all the people who have visited this place over the centuries. I am also impressed by the photography in this post. The pictures of the mosque and its surroundings are beautiful. This is an excellent reminder of the importance of preserving our historic sites. @MehadeHasan Thank you for sharing this post!
