5-week challenge: What’s the last photo you shared on Maps?

Local Guides love challenges. Whether these challenges are related to events, happen every month, or every season, the truth is, we see you having a lot of fun. Are you ready for more? Then join our five-week Local Guides challenge! Every Monday over the next five weeks, we are going to share a challenge post on one of the Connect boards: Photography, Travel, Food & Drink, Local Stories, and Meet-ups. You will have until Sunday of each week to participate, and we will feature the winners on Connect.

Our first challenge is photography. Why? Because Local Guides love to add photos on Google Maps and share their “star photos" on Connect. And we must confess, we love your photos, too!

This week, we ask you to show us the last photo you shared on Maps and tell us why you shared it. Make sure to add a link to your photo on Maps to participate! Three of the best entries with a description and a link will be featured on Connect.

I’ll start! I took the photo you see above at the Roman baths in Hisarya, Bulgaria, a newly opened archeological site. Why did I add it? Because it shows the wheelchair accessible path at the entrance and one of the several interactive boards inside the place that visitors can scan with an app to learn more about the site through augmented reality. On that particular board, you can take a photo with a Roman god!

Here is my photo on Google Maps. (If you’re curious, you can also read more about the app and the baths in my review.)

Now is your turn! Share a link to the last photo you added on Google Maps and tell us why you added it by Sunday, February 28. We will select three of the best descriptions with links for a special feature on Connect! You can also nominate your favorite entries using our nomination form.

It’s really great initiative! @DeniGu

I like the challenges and I’m definitely participating in this challenge.

Here I’m sharing with you my photo as well as the post I’ve written today.

The picture shown here is taken during my recent visit to the dinosaur and fossil park. The giant life-size statues of the Allosaurus dinosaur are displayed with its name in the photo here.

Here is my last photo on Google maps.

Great Challenge, @DeniGu , and great photo too (we should talk about your photo, you know that).

As you asked for the last photo (easy to find) here is mine, directly embedded from Google Maps

I took the photo yesterday on the Laguna del Mort . In the photo you can see part of a brand new accessible path (still under construction) which will allow disabled access to the “wildest” part of the natural oasis. A post is in preparation

Hi @DeniGu ,

Hi @DeniGu great challenge!

Here is the last photo I shared on Maps

I took this photo last friday I enjoyed going out to the park (after satying at home several days) and flying my drone.

I uploaded this photo because you can see all the skatepark ramps as well as the pool from that point of view with a single photo. Also people could notice that the park has a cycle path, and if you look closely you could see that theres an orange mesh so kids can´t enter to the playground due to COVID restrictions. It is not the best photo because grass turned brown/yellow because of winter.

Thanks for information .

@NareshDarji thanks for sharing this post with everyone.

Very true I love challenges, I believe in life we should have challenges. More challenges we become more strong.

My lasts photo on map was of chandrashekhar the boy who came to repair my laptop. I know we should not post photo on map but I did because there is story behind it. When he was repairing my laptop just click his photo.

I was just talking to him casually that time I asked of his shop it’s just back lane he told he shared a table space & rent here is too high 12 thousands + deposit he gave 50 thousands he paid. He told due lockdown he couldn’t come as he was staying far. I just ask him where u stay he said vasai which is 44.5 km from our station & his house is away around 2 km from vasai station. I was surprised travelling so long that to he said on bike daily as train was not running after lockdown was open only government servant can travel by train So he hired a bike on rent of his relative who was not using bike as he was working from home. So daily he does up down by bike to cover loses he had no work when it was completely lockdown.

He said as it’s posh area people pay well don’t bargain I told him why don’t u work at vasai,he said where I stay low group people stay hardly people have laptop Or computer.During lockdown some manage to buy computer…

So I thought I should share his photo on Map.

This way I will help local businesses. When people will see him wearing mask will call him at home to repair. He took 1500 rs from me my son told if we go Dell service center they would charge 2500-3000 rs keep laptop for 2-4 days. He repair with 1 half hour.

All this we can’t share on Map,as challenge I thought share the story behind his photo.

Thank you @DeniGu for this post, I love to participate in this challenge, even I m not a very good Photographer, but I want to share what I captured.

I visited few days ago to Pavilion End Club (I already suggested an edit to change the name, because someone change it and put the wrong name of this club)

There I find a beautiful Jogging track which was not only suitable for people who were there for morning walk, but it was a perfect Accessible Track for the people who have different abilities, and who wants to visit there for taking fresh breath of mornings. Here you can find this photo in my Google Maps Contributions.

Thank you

This is awesome @DeniGu

I am In for this…

Check this Picture.

I took this last week on my visit to the state capital.

Why I took this shot was, the train station is very popular but is a bit out skate of the city and is a major link between the Federal capital and Kaduna state.

upon reaching the station I discover that there is no any picture of this place on map. what do you expect me to do? lol. I quickly take this shot and add it to the map. what I love about this picture is that it capture the main departure building and the wheelchair access ramp.

the Map LINK is here

Kind regards and looking forward for the next challenge next week…

Hi @RosyKohli ,

That really was a touching story. Does the boy work at the laptop repair shop to which you added his photos on Maps? If yes, it would be a great idea to mention in your review of the shop that they have people repairing laptops at the homes of their customers. That way, potential customers can understand why you added these photos and may call to ask for a similar service. This could truly help the business.

That is a great idea @DeniGu And you are right! We love to add photos to Google Maps.

Today I visited ‘Blades of Glory’ cricket museum in Pune. This is a museum of cricket accessories like bat, ball, gloves, jerseys, pads etc which were used and / or signed by cricketers in international matches. There I took some photos. I have already uploaded these to Google Maps. The last photo I uploaded on Google Maps is:

I clicked many photos at this museum and have also uploaded many photos to Google Maps. But I liked this photo most. It was a unique experience for me to take a photo with a bat which was signed by ‘The God Of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar himself. The bat that Sachin used to score a century was cool to hold in my hand.

Hi @DeniGu ,

very nice initiative and of course we all like photos  !

I’m joining with my very last photo submitted last Saturday. Where? That’s easy to guess, at my favorite Neapolitan pizzeria in Lucca while waiting for my take out pizza’s.

I was standing just in front of the main entrance door and the view of this external patio they have to eat there just catched my eyes because of the emptiness feeling when usually is full of people. Covid regulations allow just take out and no dinner inside, so the place is all cleaned and put away just like it is closed for holiday … sadness view of this place.

Thank you for offering this challenge @DeniGu

Here’s my recent photograph:

This picture is a sandstone chariot at the Birla Temple in Delhi and is an ordinary picture but answers a question that local guides ask me routinely ‘How do you manage to take a clear shot at busy places’.

The secret is:

  1. I wait patiently for long enough to get a clear view avoiding other people appearing in the frame.

  2. I go to a place on a weekday when relatively few people visit.

  3. I chose a secluded place for photography that is cut off from the places that are crowded.

And the link to the Google Maps contribution.

Wow! Deni! This is Nouveau (the augmented reality board), now, I have to scan through my memory to be sure I have seen something like this. Your post is beautiful and nicely written.

I have to look for a fine photo to share before participating    because I know Local Guides will rush to check if it was indeed my last photo. :grinning:
