5 Tips for Taking Better Photos with a Smartphone

1. Rule of Thirds

One of the basic smartphone photography tips is to learn The Rule of Thirds. The Rule of Thirds calls for you to divide your camera into nine sections. This can be accomplished by enabling the camera grid on your smartphone and if your phone doesn’t have the option, you can pretty easily eyeball it. Then, put the main focus of the photo on two of the lines.

2. Just Clean the Lens

This one simple thing can make a photo horrible or great. We suggest buying a micro-fiber or lint-free cloth for a few dollars to clean that lens. You’ll be surprised at the difference it makes.

3. Look for Light

It is so easy to get a dark and nasty picture that you just want to throw out. If you just look for lots of light pointing at an object and not much behind it you’re much more likely to get that perfect shot.

4. Don’t Shoot Into the Sun

Unless you’re looking for a silhouette you should almost never shoot at the sun with a smartphone. This usually gives you a back lit scene with either a very bright sun or a very dark object. It can also occasionally damage the camera.

5. Take Lots of Photos

If you take lots of photos you’re more likely to get that perfect shot. Get multiple angles on the things you are taking pictures of, then you can pick and chose what is best.

Now go out there, take that perfect shot, and upload it to Google Maps!
