One of my favorite travel destinations is Singapore. Upon arrival at the airport, my travel journey already begins because the Airport itself is like a shopping mall and a tourist destination in one. Last year, Singapore’s Changi Airport added a new attraction called “Jewel”. Jewel is said to be the world’s tallest indoor waterfall. Aside from that, there are so many things to do in the airport. I even stayed there for 5 hours while waiting for my flight and ran through the sunflower garden at the roof top of the Airport overlooking the planes below.
To my fellow local guides and to future travelers, who are planning to travel to Singapore, I made 5 Helpful Tips for You.
My 5 Helpful Tips:
-
Dress for a Tropical Weather and Wear Comfortable Shoes. Expect a lot of walking especially if you want to travel in a budget. Bring a lightweight bag and always bring some water. All the walks can make you thirsty.
-
First thing to do after getting out of the Airport Area is to Get an MRT Map (Train Map) and buy a week pass or a day pass (EZ-Link Card) for the MRT depending on the number of days of your travel. MRT Maps are free and you can get them from the counters before entering the MRT stations and you can also buy your passes from them. You can also use your EZ-Link Card for buses. Download the map in your phone and it is so easy to navigate and find your way.
-
Be Aware of the Rules. Singapore is known as a “Fine City”. Smoking in the wrong area can get you fined for up to $1000! Even chewing a gum and sticking it on a public property and eating and drinking inside the wait area for the MRT can get you in big trouble!
-
A Safe Place to Travel. This country has a very low crime rate so be confident to stroll around as I have observed just by walking on the streets, the trees have cctv so its like every area is being monitored.
-
Have Fun but Spend Wisely. Singapore can be expensive in many ways but there are always ways where you can save while traveling such as you can try eating in “Hawker Centers”. Hawker Centers are inexpensive food centers and presents the most authentic Singaporean Cuisine. One thing to take note are the colored placards placed in front of each stalls or establishments. Placards with “A” shows the best hygiene standards and it goes all the way to “D” which presents a Risk.
I hope this helps and I wish you all the best for your future travel adventures!
