5 Best places to see sunrise in Cambodia

As a traveler, getting to new places and getting best shots in those places is so rewarding. I would like to tell you about my experiences as traveler who have seen the best sunrises from different parts of the country. Get your camera ready!

  1. Sunrise at Mrech Kangkeb mountain (Areng valley), Thmabang district in Koh Kong province. This area is worth trekking and hiking because you will go up the mountain and see tops of trees. The walking time is around 3hours for 13km of distance, mixing the Kouyun rise of 8km. The evening is chilled by the galaxy, and comet view. What is more special is about this place is that by waking up early morning to witness the waves of cloud just under your feet. The best time to visit is from October to May.
  2. Sunrise at Stung Popok or “the River of Cloud” – located in Dong Peng commune, Sre Ambil district, Koh Kong province. It is also on the mountain where you could see fog or waves and lines of cloud at your left or right. The best time to see between May to June and October to February.
  3. Sunrise at Angkor Wat temple, everyday you can wake up and wait to see sunrise at Angkor Wat as early as 5am, beware of the crowds. If you happen to be in Cambodia in March (20-22) and September (20-23), there are the best chances to see the sun rise just on top of the middle tower of Angkor, Spring equinox and Autumn equinox, respectively.
  4. Sunrise over Tonle Sap – many people are not early birds but if you are at Tonle Sap, do not miss the sunrise opportunity. It is time when you experience seeing multiple birds over different trees wake up and get ready for food. The view is just as amazing as the sunset over the lake. Both sunrise and sunset over the lake are amazing and you would regret it.
  5. Sunrise over the rice fields in rainy season – since about 70% of the land in Cambodia are farmlands, wherever you are, you should not miss the sunrise opportunities. They are preciouse. Sunrise over the green field in rainy season is beautiful but sunrise over the golden rice field is another beauty!

Hi @Sophia_Cambodia

Beautiful photos of the sunset and Cambodia seems really amazing. I would love to visit one day. I think I fell in love back when the first Lara Croft movie came out and I saw Angkor Wat Temples. I was stunned!

My favorite is to watch the sunset by the beach like you do in one of the photos. Here is one of my favorites from last summer in Cannes, France.

Shot on iPhone X and edited with Lightroom Mobile.

  • @DanniS how cool it is to witness such beautiful landscape. Your photos looks nice, appreciated your sharing!. There are times when we stop and appreciate nature. Sunrise and sunset is one example. It occurs everyday except when looking at them at different places would give us different views.*
