My wife and I have been traveling for the last 14 months on an extended honeymoon. Well, actually we call it a sabbatimoon (sabbatical-honeymoon) since it has gone on for so long. That story here.
Throughout our travels, we use Google Maps like whoa. Here are our favorite ways to utilize the good ole G-Maps:
1. Download Maps – before heading to a new destination with uncertain Wi-Fi or no SIM card download the map of the area so you have a local map offline to help you navigate around.
2. Heart Places – all your friends and family ask you for recommendations from the places you’ve been, right? Well, save your favorite restaurants, hotels, and sites as ‘hearts’ in your Google Maps and all you need to do is open your app and share or show your recs.
3. Track Each Other – if you ever split off from your travel partner, or are going solo in a strange place, send your location on Google Maps to a trusted friend or family member (hey, mom!) and rest assured they will know your location in case anything comes up.
4. Local Guiding – finally, we love to review and rate our favorite places so other travelers find the spots we love, those businesses flourish, and we can eventually come back again and visit them.
That’s it! Just a few easy ways to travel and get the most of Google Maps and Local Guiding.
Happy Trails!
Tristan and Danyelle
