Right from the beginning, the Master Director badge has been the one badge I really wanted to unlock on Google Maps.
I looked at my Expert Director badge screen this morning and couldn’t help smiling at how uneven the three targets look on my profile right now. Adding videos to 100 places (sitting at 214 now) and getting 10,00,000 video views (currently at 25,89,039 views) happened quite naturally over the years.
The real mountain for me is reaching 1,000 videos. Even after all this time, I am still at 352!
I think the reason my video count grows so slowly is just my habit when I visit a place. Whether it is a local food joint or a public spot here in Vapi, my first instinct is always to click photos. I usually record a video only when something really catches my eye, like a dish brought fresh to the table or a quick look around a new place. I never felt like uploading four or five clips of the exact same place just to push the numbers up.
Off late though, I have been consciously trying to add more videos. Whenever I take my phone out to click a photo for Maps, I remind myself to also take a quick 5 to 10-second clip. Sometimes a short video shows the space or portion size much better than a still photo.
Still 648 videos away from closing that purple ring, so it is going to take a while!
Quality over quantity always. @PriyankaU Those little 5–10 second clips can make a real difference for others exploring a place. Keep going, one video at a time. You’ll get that Master Director badge!
On an upward graph is a great sign. Wishing you the best @PriyankaU to reach 1000 video mark. I myself is on that journey but very far still. What I believe is not everything needs a video, but the video should be captured to give real feel of the place or if it covers practical aspects on accessibility and so on. This could help a lot of people.
I know just how you feel, @PriyankaU. Congratulations on those 352 videos. I’m only at 298 out of the necessary 1000. This is despite having covered 218 places where only 100 were needed, and receiving 10 million views for the requisite 1 million. I consider this an almost impossible goal, as it seems difficult to remember to take a video each time I take a photo.
My other challenge is the Trailblazer badge, as I have 161 “first photos” where 50 were needed, and 60 “added places” where 50 were needed. But I only have 23 “first reviews” out of the necessary 50, and it would be rare for me to visit so many of the types of new places that need reviews.
Thanks a lot @Hemang_Rindani Spot on, A quick clip showing accessibility or the real feel of a place is way more useful than recording everything. All the best for your 1000 video milestone too.
Wow, 10 million views on 298 videos is incredible, @tony_b Glad to know I’m not the only one who forgets to switch from photo to video mode in the moment.
Wishing us both luck with the 1,000 video climb and those remaining first reviews for your Trailblazer badge.
