Hi! My name’s Karol Roza and I’m a Local Guide level 8 from Posadas, Misiones, Argentina.
As I’m a teacher I don’t get to travel that much during school year, so I’ve set to the task of keeping my hometown’s map as updated and complete as possible.
What does the Local Guides program mean to me?
I’ve been asked by my family, friends and colleagues many times about what motivates me to spend some time everyday adding photos, writing reviews or just scrolling around the streets of Posadas to see if I’ve missed something. I’ve reflected a lot upon this and today I want to share with you what I believe are the most important things everyone should know about what we do:
We are team players! A Local Guide is never alone. We love getting together in meet ups, in social media and especially here, our place, and we share experiences, learn from one another and even forge lifelong friendships.
Even if there are few or no other Local Guides where you live, you will always find here someone to connect with. That’s why every time I get the monthly email we all love, the balloons remind me of the saying that goes ‘We rise by lifting others’.
We respect and cherish differences If I had to go for one way in which the program has changed me the most, I would definitely say it’s made me more open minded and confident. Despite the fact that we may have differences everyone is welcome to pitch in and help however they feel comfortable. Some might focus on the Map itself while others delight us with exciting posts every week.
There’s a special place for each and everyone of us and lots of helping hands to point you in the right direction.
We never get bored A Local Guide’s day should have 25 hours! This is because belonging here doesn’t mean only editing, adding and answering questions on an app, but it’s about always looking for new ways to make this a more fun and useful journey for everyone!
Local Guides all over the world are involved in amazing ventures that range from podcasts, meetups (now virtual), challenges and projects that make a huge difference in the lives of communities all over the globe.
As many of you I’m sure, I’ve often been asked
‘But do you get paid to do it?’ - Well that depends: I get to make new friends from all over the world, I learn about numerous topics and above all, I feel that I’m truly doing my best and using these tools to help others, could anyone put a price on that?
@kroza excellent post!!! I would say that there isnt definitelly a word that defines what we feel. I simply say that it is a wordless program. I think that i tried to get our country known but i try to do always my best. regards!!!
The final question is pretty hard to answer, but it should be a mix of all the inspiring and great people we meet thanks to the program, and everything we learn from it too. So… Everything we learn thanks to Local Guides! Including stuff about other Local Guides. And well, also how much we help such an useful system, there are a lot of things!
This post is so nice @kroza ! I couldn’t agree more with you. I’m in kind of same situation than you about not traveling much, I’m a tourist in my own city. But at the end that’s the best part, because otherwise I wouldn’t know well the places around me. I still have a lot to see, either old places and new ones, and that’s really exciting to me
It certainly is @Male2019 ! There’s a football team’s chanta over here that says "Es una locura que no tiene cura, ni explicación", don’t you think it’s kind of the same with many of us?
Hola @kroza , what a beautiful post! I agree with everything you wrote here, including “Do you get paid?” I wish I could collect a dollar every time someone asks me this question, in my daily life, on social media, and here on Connect!
I am sorry to read you were not able to submit an application video before the March 30th, 8 pm GMT deadline. You are in great company with such an active, truly beautiful #TeamArgentina Local Guides community @Jesi@Cecilita@CaroGuiniazu
It’s fine, I’m grateful I made my mind on time because it would have broken my heart if (big if) I got selected and wasn’t able to go! Hope to see you all having lots of fun there!
Wonderful post indeed @kroza and I have to admit that being a Local Guide means a lot and most of them cannot be measured by money. Happy to see your cheerful photos from CL 2019! Enjoy the ride and happy contributing! Cheers from Jakarta
