Hi Local Guides!
Everyone knows Magelang as the home of Borobudur Temple, but for those who love nature, cool air, and hidden gems, let me take you a little higher — to the mountain sides of this beautiful region.
Here are 3 lesser-known but breathtaking spots in Magelangthat I personally recommend for your next adventure:
1. Silancur Highland
Located on the slopes of Mount Sumbing, Silancur Highland offers a panoramic view of mountain ranges, sunrise above the clouds, and flower gardens that make you feel like you’re in a fairytale.
Why I love it: It’s peaceful, photogenic, and the perfect place to just breathe and pause. Ideal for slow travelers or anyone looking for calm.
2. Nepal van Java (Dusun Butuh)
Often called the “Nepal of Indonesia”, this colorful village sits dramatically on a steep mountain slope. The view is surreal — like a painting — and the hospitality is heartwarming.
Why I love it: It’s a village with a view like no other, and walking through it feels like exploring a dreamland. Plus, the community here is very welcoming.
3. Grenjengan Kembar Waterfall
A hidden twin waterfall surrounded by lush forest. The short hike to reach it makes the visit feel more adventurous, and the sound of the water is so relaxing.
Why I love it: It’s not too touristy yet, which means you can enjoy the nature without the crowds. A great picnic or meditation spot!
Magelang is more than just a historical city — it’s a nature lover’s paradise. If you enjoy cool weather, greenery, and hidden gems, these three places will steal your heart.
And if you ever visit, feel free to ask me for more local recommendations!
