Hello Local Guides Community and Google Team,
I am writing today to share a major milestone, but also to express some genuine frustration regarding how our community is recognized. Recently, my contributions on Google Maps officially crossed 22 million views.
Knowing that my photos and reviews have helped millions of people make real-world decisions is incredibly rewarding. However, reaching this massive level of impact has also left me feeling deeply unappreciated by the platform.
While digital badges, level ups, and occasional automated “thank you” emails are a fun way to gamify the platform, they do not match the immense value that top-tier creators provide to Google Maps entirely for free. Frankly, receiving only “silly patches” for driving tens of millions of views makes the effort feel unrecognized, and it has caused me to lose my motivation to continue contributing to the platform.
I would love to open the floor to the community and the Google Product Managers who moderate this board:
- How can Google better acknowledge and retain its highest-tier contributors beyond basic gamification?
- Is there any discussion around creating exclusive tier benefits, physical recognition, or more tangible perks for creators driving tens of millions of views?

I hear you. I was wondering the same thing I’m at 35 million views. I’m thinking past 10 million there should be some sort of perk like a real plaque or even a pair of socks a pen.. free admission to an event. However we signed up knowing there’s no real level perks. Anyways keep going, it’s good to promote local business, regardless.

Thank you to the fellow Local Guides who took the time to read, reply, and support this post with your likes. It is reassuring to see that this sentiment resonates with other high-level contributors who understand the dedication it takes to build a meaningful portfolio on this platform.
However, I must express my profound disappointment that after a full week, there has been absolutely zero response or acknowledgment from any Google administrator, community manager, or representative.
Ironically, this complete silence perfectly illustrates the core frustration of my original post. When a volunteer contributor driving over 22 million views brings forward a polite, constructive critique regarding platform value and user retention, a week of corporate silence is a loud answer.
It signals that the platform values our data, but not our voices. Moving forward, it is difficult to maintain the motivation to capture professional imagery and verify local business data entirely for free when the relationship is completely one-sided. I hope the team behind this program eventually realizes that automated badges cannot replace basic human acknowledgment and respect for the creators keeping their maps accurate.
I am deeply disappointed.
