Hello Mappers,
Today my Video Contributions have touched 2 Million views.
It’s bit special because I don’t have lots of videos like photos.
Just 435 Videos to 300 Locations with total views of 2004573.
Here are my stats @JustJake. Using your format below:
Mini Stats
Total Videos : 169
Places/POI : 133
Total Views : 2,144,338
Views Per Video : 12,688
Video Per Place : 1.27
Fun Fact : 168 of my Videos were added between April 2023 and March 2025, while just one video was added in April 2019. That one is NOT my Star Video by a long shot.
I wonder if picking up scissors like Terry would bring my avg views to a better number
Yes I do have some bad videos but if only there were a video sorting tool I could have done it already. Let’s see my first target is to reach 1k videos to 1 k locations at least.
I wonder of Jake would up the game after getting tagged by the Tony he already have better avg views
I try to remember to do video, but it just never crosses my mind in the moment. I like @TerryPG’s approach to shooting still video, and I could always take @Rednewt74’s slideshow approach. But, seeing how high my averages are, maybe I don’t need to do much more. I can be like Mike and Mel!
Are you referring to @TerryPG pruning non-performing photos from his list of contributions? I also tried that successfully, but the crash in February 2024, and the subsequent new way of views being counted by Google, has pulled my average views back down again.
While you say there’s no video sorting tool, here’s a trick suggested by @MattGatlin that some of us use:
Open a ‘Find Text’ box (ctrl+F on PC)
Search for “0:”
Because all of our videos have a time overlay of 0:xx, you can search for them using the common “0:” on each one. You need to scroll right away down your list and click Enter with the cursor inserted after the search criteria. Otherwise, you will get an incomplete list. Next you click the or the to page through your videos from among your many photos.
I know how you feel. It often doesn’t cross my mind either. To quote @shunsader “I just haven’t been doing that…something about moving my camera over my food, or trying to envision what a storefront “Video” should look like. I guess I’m still old school”.
But then there are other times I set out on a journey deliberately looking for video opportunities. I still don’t think I’ll ever have 1,000 videos.
Thanks @tony_b quite ingenious idea using search function of desktops. I have an old desktop but I avoid using it most of my stuff goes via Android phone. I remember reading this post but haven’t seen @MattGatlin lately. Someday I’m gonna try this.
@JustJake I think there were discussions related to video last year or before that.
We had trials like Portrait vs Landscape. And I’m always of the opinion that mobile or things that align with social media app are suitable and likely to be the future. I think people using maps for navigation or for information via desktop are very few hence portrait media will be preferred or if not I believe they have better future prospects.
Taking videos is tough. It’s kind of trade of tbh, in the time you shoot a 10 second video awkwardly standing among people you can snap 5 easy shots. But since the product meet from Masa and after explosive video mapping by @AZ_2021 i decided to up the game little bit. Let’s see but I’m of the opinion with better internet speed, interactive views, content features of map and in the time of shorts n reels videos shot in portrait will get good count. I can be wrong just my opinion.
Sorry, I don’t know a way to search or sort videos via mobile phone. I know it’s a changing world, but I’m young enough to upload from my phone, but old enough to prefer to do everything else via my laptop.
I do almost all my videos in portrait because that’s the natural way to hold a phone. But I do most of my photos in landscape because @AdamGT says so.
