16 Billion Passwords Leaked — Stay Safe, Local Guides!

Hi everyone,

I’m not sure if this news directly relates to our usual Local Guides topics. Still, I believe it’s very important for all of us who are active online and sharing regularly, especially on platforms like Google Maps.

A massive 16 billion passwords have reportedly been leaked from logs collected by malware. The data includes login credentials for services like Google, Facebook, Telegram, Apple, GitHub, and many others.

:pushpin: Note: These companies were not hacked directly. Instead, malware on users’ devices gathered login data from browsers and apps.

:shield: What You Can Do to Protect Yourself:

  • Change your passwords, especially your Google account
  • Avoid using the same password across services
  • Enable 2-Step Verification (2FA)
  • Use a trusted password manager
  • Check your account’s login activity regularly

As Local Guides, we contribute valuable insights and photos — it’s important to keep our accounts secure and protect our digital identity.

Stay safe and keep sharing responsibly!

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment, brother @NandKK :folded_hands:
Yes, digital security is something we often overlook until it’s too late. I believe small actions, such as two-factor authentication (2FA) and strong passwords, are the first line of defense, especially for those who contribute actively on platforms like Google Maps.

Let’s continue to spread awareness and help one another stay safe online! :laptop::locked_with_key:

You are most welcome brother @SophatCHY
